Just when you think the New Jersey Devils have hit rock bottom, they find a way to hit a new low.
Though they entered last night's contest on an eight-game losing streak, they still sat more than 20 points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche.
It wasn't unreasonable to think the Devils, who were long overdue for a good showing, would come out and take it to the league's worst team.
That certainly wasn't the case, especially early on, as the Avalanche out-attempted the Devils 26-8, outshot them 10-3, and out-chanced them 11-2 in the opening frame.
The Avs had nothing to show for it, though, as Cory Schneider showed up and gave the Devils a chance to find their footing.
The Devils responded with a strong 2nd period but Nathan MacKinnon was the only player able to find the scoresheet.
As per usual, it was the Taylor Hall - Travis Zajac - Kyle Palmieri line that came through for the Devils as Hall got them on the board early in the 3rd.
Rene Bourque answered shortly after, in what was the Avs' first shot since the MacKinnon goal that came mid-way through the 2nd period.

The two teams seemed destined for overtime until Devante Smith-Pelly decided defense was optional and let Francois Beauchemin walk right in to score the game-winning-goal.
John Hynes was not exactly thrilled about that.
Then goes on to call out winger who swung out to point and let Beauchemin free for winner. Watching replay, certainly seems like DSP.

With another loss in the books, the Devils will shoot for 10 straight tomorrow night in Arizona. Can they do it? We'll find out!
