New Jersey Devils are putting the final pieces together before their home opener against the Chicago Blackhawks. Hopefully, they have figured out their power situation at the Rock.
1. Speaking of power situation: How about the power play combinations Mark Recchi was using at practice yesterday? First combination of Hamilton, Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Zacha. Second combination: Subban, Mercer, Sharangovich, Kuokkanen, and Tatar. I have always been a fan of having just one defenseman to quarterback the point. The Devils have a lot firepower and their power play should improve from last year. They just need to keep it simple and get the puck on net.
2. Jimmy Vesey’s hard work in training camp has paid off. The Devils and Tom Fitzgerald rewarded him with a one year, $800K contract.
3. Jesper Boqvist and Akira Schmid were sent down to Utica. I expect Boqvist to be back with the big club at some point this season
4. As per Amanda Stein: Mackenzie Blackwood said he is leaning towards getting the vaccine in the next few weeks.
