It looks as those forward Jacob De La Rose’s season is done. The Detroit Red Wings forward who departed from the club’s March 19 game at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers with an accelerated heart rate is likely to undergo a surgical procedure that it is hoped will rectify the problem. “De la Rose saw a specialist this morning,… Wings coach Jeff Blashill told Mlive.com. “There’s a procedure that is suggested that would ultimately fix his issue. “If that procedure is done, that would take him out for the rest of the year. It means he would have to be on blood thinners for a bit and couldn’t play contact sports for a bit but then would be totally fine for next year.… While the final decision has yet to be made, Blashill believed that De La Rose is planning to go ahead with the procedure. “I think he’s learning towards having it done, which would mean he’d be out for the season,… Blashill said. “But I would expect a full recovery and he’d be ready to play next year.… This incident was the second time during the 2018-19 NHL campaign that De La Rose was forced to leave a game due to an accelerated heart rate. While he was with the Montreal Canadiens, a similar incident occurred during a preseason game against the Ottawa Senators. The Wings claimed De La Rose on waivers from the Canadiens in October. Frk Recalled The number of forwards who find themselves situated in sick bay left the Wings shorthanded up front as they returned to the ice for Wednesday’s practice in preparation for Thursday’s game at Buffalo against the Sabres. Forwards De La Rose, Justin Abdelkader (hairline leg fracture), Michael Rasmussen (upper body), Thomas Vanek (abdomen) were joined among the walking wounded by Anthony Mantha and Luke Glendening. “Ras potentially could be out for the rest of the year, just because we’re running out of time,… Blashill said. “Nothing long-term effect, just the reality of the situation. “Vanny skated today, swelling was down. There’s potential to get a couple games in, but will not play in this game or Friday (at home against the New Jersey Devils).… The news was more hopeful regarding Mantha and Glendening. “I anticipate both of them to be maintenance days,… Blashill said. “They’ve both got little issues. I think they’re both going to be ready to play tomorrow. I won’t know that 100 percent until tomorrow. “Glendening, certainly I expect to play. He’s had a number of nagging injuries that he plays through. We just felt it was best for him to have a rest. Mantha blocked a shot the other day. He’s got some swelling, so he’ll hopefully be able to feel fine in the skate tomorrow and be able to play.… With just 12 healthy forwards if you include forward/defenseman Luke Witkowski as part of the up front group, the Wings opted to recall right-winger Martin Frk from AHL Grand Rapids on an emergency basis. “He will join us at the plane,… Blashill said of Frk. “If Mantha or Glenny can’t play, then Marty Frk will go in. If both can play, then we will terminate the call-up and Marty will be sent back down.… Frk spent most of the season with Detroit but was often a healthy scratch, producing 1-4-5 totals in 25 games. He was shipped to Grand Rapids on Feb. 14 and shows 4-9-13 numbers from 10 games there. Follow me on Twitter @asktheduffer
