If you were holding out hope the Penguins would land a steady hand to lead their franchise via Toronto, I don’t have good news. Kyle Dubas may not stay in Toronto’s GM role, but he doesn’t sound like someone who will land elsewhere if he doesn’t renew is contract, either.
Kyle Dubas says he’s either interested in staying in Toronto as GM or he needs time away to recalibrate. Says he won’t be popping up elsewhere next week in another GM job…

Says it’s been a tough year on his family and he needs to think about that.
Even if it was a long shot I thought the idea of Dubas being a President of Hockey Operations and having a GM under him in Pittsburgh was one of the better paths for the Penguins to go down. Dubas effectively being out of play narrows down the intriguing candidates.

Toronto is a rough market to survive in on a good day. I can definitely understand how the family would catch shrapnel from fans upset about the team. It is one of the unfortunate realities of being in a public hockey position in Toronto. You will get psychotic fans crossing boundaries they shouldn’t approach let alone scale.
As for the Penguins this long shot appears to be over before it began.
