So, as a follow up to notes from my blog yesterday, the Devils announced that newly acquired Corey Crawford will be taking a personal leave of absence. This officially answers some of the questions and locker room players were already saying things such as "he needs his time right now".
What, exactly, no one knows at it has been hush hush. Without any speculation, we wish him and his family the best - whatever he and his family is going through. That is first and foremost!
So what happens now to the goalie situation? Wedgewood was brought in, and he should get the first shot at the backup job. He is certainly a capable backup but not a Crawford level backup.
Free agency doesn't have much out there in terms of anyone to sign, as for as I can see, that would be a better option over Wedgewood.
The trade route, I don't think a trade would be in the cards this early as teams are trying to see what the season will look like at the start.
Another questions this brings up is, Does this have an impact on signing Bratt? I sure hope so. We need him in camp.
From a camp perspective, Yegor Sharangovic continues to impress and push for a spot. I hope he and Kuokkanen stick around for sure.
