The Coyotes surprised everyone last week when they announced that fifth overall pick from this summer's draft, Barrett Hayton, had made the team.
Today they announced that he would be going back to junior to play for Sault Ste. Marie in the OHL.
The weird thing is that prior to his demotion, Hayton had been listed on the IR, even though I didn't see him get injured or hear that he was. He ended up playing in zero games.
It's no surprise that the Coyotes would have kept him, given that they suffered so many training camp injuries (Galchenyuk, Dvorak, Archibald) but it is strange that they didn't play him.

Based off of this, I assume the Coyotes wanted him up here for insurance in case of further injuries, with the pay off that he could be around the NHL team, soak in a few practices and get some experience on what it's like to be a pro.
Assuming that is the case, I see nothing wrong with such an idea - I am sure all the non-game NHL experience he got was worth a week of not playing.
For myself, I was hoping that he'd play a game or two so we could see what he looks like, since the organization absolutely raves about him. I was then further hoping that he would surprise everyone and make sending him back a a difficult decision.
Oh well.
In other news, I went on a the Rock trifecta this weekend and saw Rampage, Baywatch and Skyscraper. I don't know if any actor has ever put out three such high quality films in a row before.
The Rock nails it as Mitch the Lifeguard, Gary the Skyscraper and as Randy Rampage, a disgrunteld zoologist who specializes in wolf fights.
Though the Rock will likely not receive a Best Actor Oscar for his performances in any of the movies, he damn well should. Baywatch, at least, has a shot at the Oscar for best adapted screenplay, as it is based off the little known Pynchon Novel of the same name.
Overall, you could do worse during a Sunday in bed with a cold. In total, I rate the Rock's three movies that I watched this weekend the highest possible rating of Five Almeidas each, for a total of fifteen Almeidas.
Coyotes take on the Ducks tomorrow in Anaheim.
