Copp and robbery plus a physical night for Rasmussen (Ville Husso)

Game Summary:

Husso has looked really good post All Star break. He’s been the guy closing the door as Wings are scoring. I am glad we’re talking more about a win than what seemed to be fairly selective refereeing. Rasmussen took some rough hits, but everyone on that line of Copp-Ras-Perron had at least 2 points. Copp’s first 3 point game as a wing and Perron just seems to make plays.

To be in a wild card spot in late February is not what I expected. Copp and Rasmussen both get a fair amount of criticism, that’s pro sports. That line had a lot going tonight. Larkin gets another point and Zadina nets a much needed goal. The 2nd unit of the power play looked good too.

New York may be adding some more very serious firepower, and it’s nice to see Detroit competing against a team that expects a deep playoff run.

Moritz Seider seems way more mature than we’ve had in young defensemen in a while ago. He blocks and seems to be able to move the puck in a myriad of ways.

This game got physical, and hits kept getting harder. Rasmussen is the one “big man… left from Hollands first rounders and he is getting better at using that size. His focus on the ice and getting to the goal resulted in 2 tallies. Copp needed a game like this. Was fun to see him loosen up a bit and enjoy the post game even more.

There’s still a lot of hockey to be played, but since the break this team has surprised quite a few people. I hope they can keep it going.

First Period Red Wings goals:

Wings open the scoring at 15:33 as Copp tapped in a nice pass from Rasmussen on a brief 2 on 1 as Rasmussen first dished to Perron and drove to the net and got it to the goal scorer. 1-0 DET

Shots: 10-7 NYR Score: 1-0 DET

Second Period Red Wings goals:

At 6:06 NYR tied it up. 1-1

At 8:18 Zadina scored on a quick snapshot as Larkin kept the puck in the zone right at the blue line and got it to the winger who had a clear path to the net.

Soon after Rasmussen took a near identical hit that Oshie got from Larkin but only a 2 minute minor assessed. Massive inconsistency.

At 18:02 Rasmussen got the best payback you can get as Perron gets the puck past Halak and on to the stick of Rasmussen who again drove right to the net. Copp with 2nd assist. That line has 2 points apiece. 3-1 DET

Shots: 23-15 NYR Score: 3-1 DET

Third Period Red Wings goals:

At 4:51 Detroit’s 2nd power play unit scored as Hronek snapped a shot from the blue line and in through a screen. Copp collected another assist and 3rd point of the night with Kubalik getting the other helper on that goal. 4-1 DET

Shots: 31-23 NYR Score: 4-1 DET
