Martin Jones, on one thing that he learned from Jonathan Quick that he's passed on to Aaron Dell:
I don't know if there's one thing. Just kind of watching [Quick] compete everyday. You watch how he plays the game. He competes super-hard on every puck. That's something as a young goalie in the league that you can try and copy.
Jones, on why he hung out with an owl during his day with the Cup in 2014:
It's not my owl. We were up for dinner on Grouse Mountain and they just had a bunch of birds, they brought over them over. It was super random.
Jones, on living with Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson in Los Angeles:
I'm on my own in San Jose. I got my own place there. Did the roommate thing for a while, now I'm living on my own.
It scarred me for life. I'm done with roommates.
Wayne Simmonds, on who he modeled his net front power play game after:
Yeah, when I was in Los Angeles...Ryan Smyth was probably on the first power play unit and Michal Handzus was on the second power play unit. Both of those guys played net front.
As much as I could, I picked those guys' minds. Follow what they did on a day-to-day basis.
[Smyth] did a lot of work with me after practice on getting pucks up quick in front of the net and tipping it and stuff like that. I owe a lot to those guys.
Simmonds, on his lack of power play usage in Los Angeles, and if he always knew how good he could be on the man advantage:
It's something I always had my eye on. I was a young guy when I was in Los Angeles. You always have to wait your turn in this league. When you get a moment, you have to try and capitalize on it.
I got to Philadelphia and I was lucky enough to be put on the power play from the first minute. For me, it was trying to capitalize on what I had. I was lucky enough that [my success] happened pretty quickly.
Simmonds, on if he still plays video games with Drew Doughty:
Honest to God, I haven't played video games since I lived with Drew. I got an xBox, it's sitting up in the roof. Me and my fiancee, we go up there every once in a while and play soccer. She's a soccer player. It's fun, but we don't do it that much.
Bruce Boudreau, on his best Darryl Sutter story from AHL's New Brunswick Hawks (HockeyBuzz note: They played together in 1979-80):
He scored 40 goals the year we were in New Brunswick. He was a lot funnier...without the seriousness he has now. He was still intense during the game.
He had just come from playing over in Japan. He was a more fun-loving and a young guy. I was a little older than him at the time. I guess I still am.
I can't go into the stories because the stories are...a little more fun.
Mathieu Schneider, on Andy Murray's infamous "When I play my best hockey, I..." assignment and if he got into it with Murray about the assignment:
That was Andy being Andy. He was trying to challenge guys all the time, think outside the box.
I think one of the guys on the team wrote something completely sarcastic. And Andy took it really personal. That's what I got upset about. That he got so upset that a player didn't take it so seriously. He got really bent out of shape.
But listen, you probably won't find a lot of coaches that I got along with throughout my career. There were maybe two or three over the course of my career that might say we had a really strong relationship.
But I had a tremendous amount of respect for Andy. Andy was one of the more diligent, hard-working coaches. He was wonderful to me.
I came into an era in Montreal where we had a really strong leadership group. I learned from those guys, when you're a leader on the team, you have to stand for some of the younger guys, the guys who are on the bubble.
[It's] your job, whether it's to the coach, to the media, or whether it's on the ice. For me, it was just looking out after a teammate, more than it was anything personal with Andy. We always got along.
