Kudos to THN's Ken Campbell, who reported first that Zdeno Chara has signed with the Capitals.
The 43-year-old blueliner has signed a one-year deal for $795,000 with Washington and indicated on Instagram that the Bruins had told him that they were moving on and wanted to play some of their younger defensemen.

*******
Jack Roslovic’s name and trade request has become very public, but behind the scenes I keep hearing Laine and the Flyers/Canadiens...
Per one source, “Roslovic is an issue that has muddied the waters a bit on a Laine deal....but that hasn’t stopped the talks...The Flyers and Canadiens are still interested and have the kind of pieces that the Jets want for Patrik.…
“Is Montreal still interested after the Perry signing?… I asked.
“Absolutely..… my source continued, “The Perry signing barely plays into the much larger deal.…
On Vatanen....
Sami Vatanen is still available...which is VERY surprising...
Interestingly, when I asked one team yesterday if they had interest in Vatanen the response kind of blew my mind...
“We should be,… the team representative said,… but at the end of the day we are going to lose money this year. Lots of it. If we make the playoffs, that’s more money we lose. The motivation this year just isn’t there.…
The source went on to say the reality is they have to survive this season and let their kids develop. "How we do almost doesn’t matter and bringing in players that cost anything more could make them better, but won’t help them financially in the long run."
In all my time talking to team people I have never felt someone sound so frustrated. This is why we are seeing so many players sign for so little. The teams just don’t see the benefit of adding salary when they are playing to an empty, or nearly empty house...
More to come....
