Hello All,
The Washington Capitals are off until Wednesday when they play the Chicago Blackhawks. Since I haven’t blogged since the poll, I wanted to touch back on some of last weeks headlines. Before that, lets look at the poll results…
As of 8:24 ET, the poll results are as follows:
Question: Will Ovechkin Break Gretzky’s All-Time Goal Record? Yes – 1010 (74%) No – 354 (26%)
My Comments This seems about right. Ovi is trending in the right direction and having arguably his best season ever so far. Nothing is absolute and sure there are plenty of variables that could prevent Ovi from getting the record. I will say this…if Ovechkin stays healthy, I have no doubt in my mind he will play for as many years as it takes to get the record. How many years will that take? Four at most. I hope people keep doubting Ovi…it fuels him! He wants it!
Last Week’s Schedule and Results:
Monday 12/06 WSH 4, ANA 3 (SO)
Friday 12/10 WSH 2, PIT 4 *I saw this game live...it was a lackluster effort from the Caps. Sad. Ill admit it, the Pens pretty much handled the Caps Friday night. That was was a solid road win for their team. The Penguins fans apparently felt like this was their Stanley Cup and decided to storm the National Portrait Gallery Steps after the game and taunt Caps fans. Classic move by the visiting teams fans. Right on brand. Congrats on the regular season win?
Saturday 12/11 WSH 3, BUF 2
Grade for the week: B- Why a “B-“? Well, the team did go 2-0-1 but they could have easily lost all three games. The Capitals did enough to win but let’s not forget just how different the tone would be if they lose both games to BUF and ANA in OT and fall to 0-7 in OT all season. The Ducks are no slouch as of late but the Sabres only have 8 wins in 27 GP. In addition, the Capitals power play went 0-6 on the week. It was a weird week for sure. On the bright side, 4 out of 6 possible points is a strong three game set no matter how you phrase it.
The week ahead:
The Capitals play on the road in Chicago on Wednesday and on Friday they play in Winnipeg. The Caps are currently off to one of the best starts in franchise history. They have the second most points in the league currently and are 4th best in points percentage. Nicklas Backstrom has been taking 1st team reps this week and there is a chance he makes his season debut on Wednesday. Backstrom has been out since last postseason where he only played one game against Boston. The Capitals could use him back in the lineup…especially for the PP!
Thanks for reading, Go Caps!
