The Boston Bruins found a way to stay busy, even on a scheduled off day, assigning forward Kenny Agostino and Zane McIntyre to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
For Agostino, it seemed like this was just a matter of time.
Increasingly ineffective with more NHL exposure, with zero points in four straight games, Agostino played a season-low 5:42 in Monday’s shootout loss to the Blue Jackets, and failed to score when called upon in the shootout. Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy seemed to officially pull the plug on the Agostino experiment long before then, however, when he replaced him with Danton Heinen on the top power-play unit, which led to Patrice Bergeron’s goal that got a three-goal comeback started.
Agostino has one assist and 11 shots on goal in five NHL games to date this season.
McIntyre, meanwhile, was a ‘split-second decision’ of a recall according to Cassidy, which means that Anton Khudobin (lower-body) is likely well enough to be Tuukka Rask’s backup on Thursday.
The Bruins have points in five straight games, by way of a 2-0-3 record.
