As expected the Wild announced the signing of Brock Faber to a three year entry level deal, following the National Championship game last night. Unfortunately for Faber and his University of Minnesota mates, they fell to Quinnipiac in overtime 3-2.
Faber will travel with the Wild to Chicago but it is unclear if he will get into the lineup. The Wild are still in the hunt for the Central Division, however, with Dallas and Colorado both rolling that may not be in the cards. That could present an option for Dean Evason to rest some of his top four defensemen.
Faber is a tremendous skater, who captained the Gophers squad this season. It is anticipated that Faber will make the Wild roster next season, with the impending end to Matt Dumba's contract and his UFA status.
Marco Rossi and Nic Petan were recalled from Iowa and will be available when the Wild hit the ice in Chicago tomorrow night.
Bill Guerin's plan is taking shape and Brock Faber is a piece to the puzzle. His entry level contract will expire as the Wild cap situation will ease up after the fourth season of the Parise/Suter buyouts.
