It is unfortunate news for Matt Boldy, but the Wild prospect will miss the opening of the season due to a broken ankle. He was apparently not going to make the opening night roster, but now he is going to begin the season on the shelf.
Marco Rossi and Adam Beckman were also assigned to Iowa to begin the season. For Rossi the plan all along may have been to have him play this season in Iowa after missing all of last season due to complications of COVID-19. The contract status also plays into this as well, and pushing his entry level deal back a year could actually benefit the Wild long haul with the looming cap situation the Wild face in the next few seasons.
Beckman really proved his worth and quite honestly belongs on the big club. I fully expect Beckman to be the first call up when the time comes.
Calen Addison also was assigned to Iowa with the Wild not wanting to keep eight defenseman. Addison defini9needs some more seasoning but will be a part of the Wild defense in the very near future.
The final tuneup for the Wild is tonight in Chicago and then the next time we see the boys the games will be for real...
