Boldy GWG, Kaprizov Hurt on Dirty Hit (Wild)

The Wild ended their 5 game losing streak and Matt Boldy scored the game wining goal in front of many family and friends in his NHL debut.

Kaapo Kahkonen was spectacular in the Wild net and Marco Rossi played very well in his NHL debut.

I wish that was the topic of the day but unfortunately we have to discuss the disturbing hit by Trent Frederic on Kirill Kaprizov in the second period. Kaprizov had gotten his legs tangled with Bruins defenseman, Matt Grzelcyk and was going down to the ice while the puck was behind him. Frederic made no attempt at the puck and deliberately smashed Kaprizov into the boards, injuring the Wild's star forward.

There was an ensuing fracas and Dmitry Kulikov squared off with Frederic with both players receiving five minute fighting majors and Frederic was issued a minor for boarding. It was only a matter of time before Frederic was going to have to answer to Marcus Foligno which occurred early in period three.

The immediate fisticuffs are minor and rarely serve to curtail dangerous play on the ice. I am sure the NHL will have their say and Frederic will have to answer the call.

Either way Kaprizov was unable to finish the game and it is unclear just how long the Wild will have to play without their best weapon.

As hockey fans we love the game and we hurt when someone in our game hurts. With that said we send out our thoughts and prayers to the St. Luke's School and to their hockey team as one of their players was tragically killed last night during their game with Brunswick in New Canaan, CT. Our hearts go out to the family of this young player. The young man has been identified as Teddy Balkind. Sticks out for Teddy!
