The Blues have fired head coach Ken Hitchcock and goalie coach Jim Corsi. Mike Yeo, brought in as the heir apparent to Hitchcock next season, is no longer in-waiting. Martin Brodeur and Ty Conklin will share goaltending coach duties for the rest of the season.
I'll have a bigger blog on this later tonight but here are a few comments from the press conference.
"Jake Allen is our goalie and Jake's our goalie of the future," Yeo said.
"Ken is paying the price for all our failures, including mine," Blues GM Doug Armstrong said.
"Whatever mess is here, it's on me," Armstrong admitted, "the light's on [players]."
Armstrong was visibly upset at the conference as he has fired one of his good friends.
Reports are that Hitchcock is angry about getting fired and the state of the Blues which is easily understandable if you know him at all, and reports are that Armstrong told Hitchcock last night after the game.
Side note - Brodeur on the ice today already at practice teaching Allen and Hutton.
It’s a great day for hockey.
Fellow Hockeybuzz bloggers Nashville Predator's Paul McCann, Winnipeg Jet's Peter Tessier and Minnesota Wild's Dan Wallace have generously agreed to a friendly charity wager. We were hoping to do the whole division but don't have it fully represented yet. The blogger whose team finishes the highest the standings at the end of the year gets to pick a charity to whom the others donate in their name.
