Bertuzzi and former Wing Frk have good all star showings (Red Wings)

Starting with the AHL, Martin Frk, former Detroit Redwing prospect and currently with the LA Kings organization (Ontario Reign) broke the former AHL (and NHL) record for hardest shot recording a blast at 109.2 mph. His shot was always amazing, just a bit off target in the NHL. Frk Is having a very good year with the Reign and this competition may help increase his stock. It’s always hard to see players with genuine NHL caliber skills not make it. The shot was never in question, it was finding time/space and a more complete game in the NHL that saw Frk unable to catch on in Detroit, Carolina, or L.A. It was a great moment for a guy that was well like by his Grand Rapids teammates and many in the organization. Here’s to the best for a great guy with a killer shot.

In the NHL, Tyler Bertuzzi had a nice weekend as well. He scored twice on the goalies during the sequential saves competition, and had a goal and 4 assists during 3 on 3. Bertuzzi was matched with Duclair and Weber and the group looked really good. What’s encouraging on that front is that Tyler has become a pro that is good for his teammates. He passed up a goal to help Duclair score another (Hat Trick for AD). He had fun and fit right in. A satisfying run for a guy that has been Detroit’s most consistent (along with Larkin) player night in and night out.

Detroit doesn’t play again until Friday. For some bizarre reason Pickard was recalled Pickard Call Up Under “emergency conditions…. The team wasn’t even practicing yet. It smacks of a trade, but there could be any number of reasons. I’m not sure what it means, but Zadina wasn’t listed on the score sheet in GR after he scored twice in his first game back. I’m guessing he was either held out or sent back before the second game. Ponderous, truly ponderous.

All of us are hoping for some excitement coming up. I once participated in a 2 day fast to raise money for charity. The youth group then celebrated at Golden Corral or something of that ilk. Even buckets full of crappy food looked like heaven when you were that hungry, and so I look at these final weeks of trade deadline the same. Starving for positives this season, let’s see if we can get 10 lbs of the world’s worst prime rib. Mmmmmmmm.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Give me some trade options in the comments. If someone is right, the trade will be posted in an “I told you so… section of an upcoming blog. Time to get internet famous! I’ll check back in with any developing stories. Welcome back hockey!
