Jonathan Bernier has given Detroit a chance to win lately, but the club seldom cashes in Bernier stopped more than 30 shots as Detroit won 2-1, their first win in 6 and only the 16th this year. The goals by Bertuzzi and Fabbri in the second period were all JB needed to deliver a win.
Of note, Lindstrom had his first career point assisting Fabbri. Bertuzzi scored his team leading 19th and first in 13. Fabbri scored his 13th and 30th point in 50 games with Detroit. Larkin’s line had some good looks, including a between the legs shot by Bertuzzi.
Though Chicago carried much of the play, Detroit was physical and engaged for most of the game. That is something sorely missed this year. Gagner has been a breath of fresh air in playmaking. He looks like a man who wants to be a difference maker. I wouldn’t mind seeing him come back next season.
With only 13 games left these kids are playing for jobs. Mantha has admitted that a shortened season will make negotiations more difficult. Even with all he’s missed Mo is still third in goals scored. Offense has been hard to come by.
Yzerman has made it clear that prospects may not get a call up as Grand Rapids is in the thick of a playoff hunt. Seider is playing 25 to 27 mins at 19, and that has impressed the GM. We may have to wait until next season to get a good look at the kids.
Apologies for my absence. An infected left arm has derailed me a bit. I’m working my way back and grateful to each of you for stopping by. You make this blog tick.
