Sports Illustrated had one of the less depressing takes on yesterday’s ouster of on air talent. Add to this 375 from earlier in the year (mostly off air) and you’ve got a company making big changes. If you don’t know, the NFL is moving content to Youtube and DirecTV gets “Red Zone… which is not a great substitute (was with Comcast when it was introduced).
Arizona Diamondbacks were next on the docket but postponed the trial a week and, along with MN, are staying with Bally “for now…. If there is a different trial for each team on the network this is going to be a long summer. We know the Coyotes don’t have a leg to stand on (or an NHL arena to stand in) and their bid for a 2 billion dollar arena and district fell through. New plans coming in January while the NHLPA is looking to find discrepancies on travel in what looks to be a chance to get the team to straighten up. If you only hold 5k and tix are at $25 for a huge chunk of fans, not good for HRR.
Some of you have been on top of signings
Luff, Lindstrom and Kostin all signed. I have to think Lindstrom will face waivers at some point unless something has changed. There are increasing calls to see Dumba and Konecny join the fold (wouldn’t mind either or both).
I am curious, Jets and Flames have people going out the door, any appetite for some of those players? Everyone will probably want to play for a contender, but may be willing to spend the regular season letting their cap hit reduce elsewhere.
The sighs. Last night it is rumored that a Lucasfilm exec has been put on “paid vacation… while individuals in black suits (and possibly mind wipers) toured internal portions of the studio including server rooms. For those who still care about movies, Indiana Jones may lose 200-400 million based on opening night and pre sales. This would be the final straw and bring movie losses for the past 12 months to over 1.2 billion. ESPN is saying recent firings are independent of Disney and continued “reworking… is on the way. Rumors, and only rumors, of full ESPN streaming at $20 were floated.
So, the 2 major partners for most Red Wings games are laying off or in bankruptcy court. This feels like watching a divorce in the middle of a foreclosure after a tornado. Hopefully good free agent news on the horizon(?)
