The Coyotes have put Adin Hill out of his misery and sent him to the AHL. They have now traded for Scott Wedgewood, the back-up/AHL goalie of the team they're playing today, the Devils.
Presumably Wedgie, as I'm sure he loves to be called, will back up Louis Domingue, who, I am loathe to tell you, will start tonight against the Devils.
When the season started, Mark Langhammer was considered the third goalie on the depth chart, and while he was recalled at one point, he never got into a game. Adin Hill was garbagio, and Louis Domingue is somehow worse.
So once he inevitably gets into a game, Wedgewood will be the fourth goalie the Coyotes have used this season. Yikes.
Of course, you might have heard about this pesky ten game losing streak the team is on. They will try to break it tonight, on the third game of their five game road trip.
In case you were wondering, and why wouldn't you be, Scottie Dubs, as I am now calling him, was acquired for a fifth round pick and a VHS copy of 90210 season two.
This might turn out to be a great trade - who knows? Wedgewood is only 25 and even though he's only ever played in four NHL games, he has great numbers. He also has great numbers in the AHL, so maybe this will work out.
I have to assume that he just can't make it in time to start, or he played last night or something, because you have to figure the Coyotes would try and start anyone other than Domingue if it was at all possible.
It might actually be kind of an awkward day for him, considering that after tonight Raanta should be back and Wedgewood will almost certainly take Domingue's job as the back-up.
So of course look for him to get a shut-out. Or, as they call it on my favorite show, a date with Andrea!
Anyways, I really do hope the losing streak ends tonight because it just isn't much fun to watch a team find new ways to lose games.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
