Babcock’s Bleak Feature / Traverse City G2 (Blue Jackets)

The saga of Mike Babcock continues with the NHL/NHLPA regarding his future coaching status before it has begun.

Babcock has come under scrutiny courtesy of the player friendly Spittin’ Chicklets podcast. An active NHLer dm’d co-host Paul Bissionette with the information of the cell phone photo request for the Blue Jackets’ players.

Additional information has come out sense that this process was used in Detroit and Toronto, and on the personnel and every roster player.

To Babcock, this is a tactic to get to know the family, friends, and upcoming events of his organization.

Boone Jenner and coach Mike Babcock have since released joint statements about the situation, and Johnny Gaudreau addressed the media during the tour in Henderson, Nevada to promote the upcoming season.

The top players were providing flowers stating it to be a regular introductory meeting.

Sure, that is a way to get to know somebody, through pictures and meetings. Not the best way at all. Legally, seems like an invasion of privacy, which has me question the use of first amendment rights for the players. One, there is a percentage of the team that is American born; the organization is in the states; and the league headquarter in the states is also American. This could go the distance with the investigation.

Ron Hainsey, the former Columbus Blue Jackets’ defender, is one of the main figureheads in all this. He was also a Babcock coached player in Toronto. This may boast well for his future, or he sides with the players and he is dismissed before he coached a single game behind the bench.

Babcock’s behavior is not acceptable under any stretch. There are methods to use to work with and know players, and he has already showed he has not changed.

Where do you stand??

CBJ V DET - Traverse City, MI Prospect Game II

Columbus returns to the ice this afternoon to battle with the host city of the Traverse City tournament in the Detroit Red Wings (Babcock’s other team).

Detroit has one of the better prospect pools in the tournament and in the league with their years of retooling and long term build of GM Steve Yzerman.

This will be the game of the tournament to me. With top prospects including Nate Danielson, Marco Kasper, and Elmer Soderblom on offense; William Willander and Simon Evidsson on defense; and Sebastian Cossa between the pipes, they are a dynasty in the making.
