Atlantic Division breakout picks for 2018-19 (Senators)

Todd Cordell

There are a few options that really stand out but I'll give Senators fans something positive to read for once and go with Thomas Chabot.

He was a very efficient offensive player as a rookie averaging 1.04 points per 60 at 5v5. Overall he put up 25 points in 63 games, which equates to 33 per 82. Those are pretty impressive numbers for a rookie who ranked 5th(!) among Sens blueliners in average ice per game at 5v5.

With Erik Karlsson, Dion Phaneuf, and co. completely out of the fold, Chabot is going to play a lot of minutes at evens and also quarterback the top power play.

Opportunity put a limited ceiling on his production last year but that won't be an issue moving forward.

Peter Tessier

There are a few players that come to mind but I'm going to go out on a limb and take a guess that in Montreal Kotkaniemi makes the team and surprises. Based on how Claude Julien is praising him I see this as a very real possibility. Is it the right move?

That I'm not so sure about as Montreal is bound to struggle this year. Why burn a year and let the best prospect in the organization deal with existing problems? He may be ready though and if the Canadiens feel he is he's probably going to surprise despite Montreal's challenges.
