The Blues haven't disclosed much about his injury but putting him on injured reserve, likely retroactive to Sunday, means that Pietrangelo will not be able to play until Sunday at the earliest though the 20th in Calgary may be a more likely target.
The move allowed the Blues to call up Jordan Schmaltz. Given that Schmaltz is in town and at practice already today this move was likely coordinated yesterday morning though not official until today.
More on the battle of the top two teams in the NHL tonight in St. Louis later today. The Lightning will be an extremely tough test, especially without Jaden Schwartz and Pietrangelo.
