82: Presidents’ Trophy Winners (FLA)

The Panthers are working at closing out their regular season in style with a Spencer Knight shut out over the Ottawa Senators (4-0) and clinching the Presidents’ Trophy with a little help from an Avalanche loss all in one night!

It’s the first time in Florida’s existence that they have claimed the Presidents’ Trophy - which is given out to the team with the most points.

And with this honor, comes a question…will they suffer the Presidents’ Trophy curse?

Of course the belief that the Presidents’ Trophy curse is simply comes down to superstition. But I suppose this superstition is made stronger by the fact that there have been only a few teams to win both it and the Cup.

It looks like the last team to win both the Presidents’ Trophy and Cup was the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks…

But before they can officially start their quest for the Cup, the Panthers will have to take on the last place Montreal Canadiens in the 82nd game of the season for both clubs.

The lineup hasn’t been released yet, but I would imagine it’s going to be similar to last night’s for the Cats. They will let the regulars rest.

Rats asked in the previous blog: Caps or Pens? Which is a better matchup?

I’m going with the Caps. I think Ovi is dealing with some injury issues and I think overall the Panthers just match up better with them. Something about the Pens makes me a little more nervous, though I think they’re having goalie injury trouble..?

either way, how about we end it on a good note heading into the post-season, eh, boys?
