The Wild completed the back to back wins first in Dallas 3-1 over the Stars, and then the next night at home with the 5-4 overtime win over the Lightning at home Saturday night.
It is only October, and just as the Wild's very slow start, the recent three game win streak is just that, October NHL hockey. Nothing to get that up or down about because all October tells us is it is hockey season and we get to watch games that will represent nothing compared to games that will be played later on in the season.
Yes there are things to watch for and concerns that need to be addressed. Players that need to get going and and systems that are in working themselves into place.
I for one do not buy into the Wild three game win streak as a sign this team is a solid playoff team. The fact that Devan Dubnyk has been the best player on the ice in each of his starts is encouraging, and just maybe he is on the cusp of taking his already top tier goaltender status to elite level.
The fact of the matter is the Wild are still dressing two forwards per night that should at best be the number 13 forward or the first call up from Iowa, is very disconcerting.
Minnesota has cleaned up their passing in the last several games which makes up for their deficiency in the speed game, but over the course of an 82 game season, that may prove to be the Wild undoing.
Yes, the Wild are a veteran club with a high character players and a very strong defense. They are a team that has the ability to stay in every game, but that type of play will take it's toll on the veteran lineup and as the season progresses those legs with extended mileage may not be able to keep up.
Three wins in a row and two straight third period come from behind victories is impressive, and earned the boys an unprecedented two days off. Back to work today and tomorrow before the Kings come to town Thursday night.
