I am in the process of updating the entire Rumor Chart, but haven't been able to get off the phone today. Heating up...
on Shattenkirk:
I, like most people, have gone back and forth on whether Shattenkirk will be traded now or sometime before the Draft. This is all in the St. Louis Blues hands and I firmly believe they've gone back and forth as well. Reading the tea leaves however, they do appear to be open for business, although the question remains: Are they just trying to prey on a desperate team right now, and setting the price so high that they are pricing themselves out essentially until after the season?
I know Tampa is very hot on Shattenkirk, as is Boston, Toronto, Montreal, and New Jersey.
Right now the tea leaves are most definitely pointing towards Shattenkirk being moved before the deadline. The Blues know they won't re-sign him, and have to look towards the future...
One big issue that isn't mentioned very often, is "Who is going to have to protect Shattenkirk matters." So if your team needs to already protect several defensemen in the expansion draft, you won't make this move until after the expansion draft. The Blues don't want to have to protect him. And there is your game of chicken.
On Philly and Tampa.
I keep hearing Ben Bishop linked to the Flyers.. The Lightning could take back a goalie, a prospect, and a conditional pick depending on the Flyers re-signing him as a UFA. On PA Parenteau...
Parenteau has had quite a crazy season, but his play as of late has improved and his name has popped up in rumors. However, as of now, I hear New Jersey really likes him and has hopes to re-sign him.
