21 in a row for Varlamov (Avalanche)

Semyon Varlamov will play his 21st consecutive game, 19th start in this stretch, when the Avalanche play Vegas Monday in the second game of their home-and-home series.

Varlamov has gone 10-4-4 in his past 18 decisions, 8-2-3 in his past 14 games with a 2.18 goals-againbst average and .938 save percentage. He made 39 saves Saturday in the Avalanche's 2-1 shootout win against Vegas, including all three shots he faced in the tiebreaker.

Jonathan Bernier is out with an infected cut.

"At this time of year, your best players have to be your best players," coach Jared Bednar told the Avalanche website. "You're going to need to get elite goaltending and the other guys got to chip in and do their job and know their role. I feel like we're at that spot as a team. I think guys are doing all they can to help our team win, and there is no selfishness involved in that."

Forwards Sven Andrighetto and Colin Wilson remain out with lower-body injuries. The Denver Post reported that the Avalanche will dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen again.

Defenseman Anton Lindholm, scratched the past eight games, will replace Duncan Siemens.

Marc-Andre Fleury starts for Vegas.
