Theodore deserves a second chance

Some people are ready to make a goalie switch already. That would kill the heart of the team and the credibility of Joel Quenneville ...... Joel knows that, that's why Theodore will start game #3. Theodore carried the Avs to the playoffs, it's their turn to b ack him up. If he struggles early, he will get pulled and he should. Jose understands that, but starting him IS the right thing to

Avs ... so far so good

Colorado has had a strong start to the series. Forsberg was tremendous in game two, after being less than that in the first game. Ryan Smyth is possibly the brightest news .... he looks like "playoff Smyth". After his injury he had a very mediocre finish to the season ... but he's BACK. He's noticeable everywhere ... and especially in front of the net. It seems he has re-signed his lease

Avs' fate

Colorado needs 1 pt to finish in 6th spot and play the Wild, in the first round. If I were them, that's what I would want. I don't think any team looks forward to playing San Jose in these playoffs. They have been white-hot and present so many challenges with speed, size puck control and goaltending.

Minnesota is no push-over either. Gaborik is a better scorer than ever and his all-a

playing games that matter

It's always interesting watching teams make a run for the last playoff spot. Half a dozen, or so, have had to sweat it out for weeks, playing games that are crucial for playoff survival. Then there are the Torontos, Edmontons ,Floridas, Washingtons, Phoenixs, and Chicagos that recently became long-shots and are dangerous enough to be a threat to get in. But don't be fooled by this last

Forsberg and the Avalanche

There is simply no denying the impact of Peter Forberg. He was dynamic last night vs Vancouver, playing mostly wit Hejduk and Stastny. Joel Quenneville has tried him with virtually everyone in the line-up. looking for the right combo of magic and balance. I think he found it. Hejduk and Forsberg already have a successful history. Stastny needed a test drive. It was stunning.

Foster injury and Colorado thoughts

I watched in horror, as Kurtis Foster slammed into the boards last night in San Jose. We all knew he was done for the season, in an instant. Defensemen are defenseless in so many of these situations. We should have done away with the current icing rule coming out of the lock-out. It was a major oversight. FAR too many players have been hurt on these NEEDLESS plays. We should have gone to "

Avs consistent despite line-up changes

Forsberg in, Forsberg out..... Foote in, Foote out....... Smyth in Smyth out...... and so it goes. But the Avs seem unaffected. They played a very solid game against an Edmonton team that had won 7 of 8. These are the types o games you dread. Edmonton is not a playoff team, but have been red-hot. They have skill and speed and nothing to lose. Colorado contained them all night had had a terr

Theodore's demeanor should be acknowledged

Jose Theodore had a couple of poor seasons in Denver. He has been summarily taken-apart and left for dead by critics these past two years. He never lashed-out .... he didn't have any public melt-downs ... he even managed the odd smile, in the face of adversity.

He deserves some credit now. He's 14-9-1 in his last 24 games.... most of those were played without Sakic, Smyth and S

avs hearts beat faster

The Avs just finished a gruelling 5-game trip with points in all but one game. That was a huge feat. Stastny came back, then sakic came back, then Foote came back! Forsberg was in the building, in Vancouver and Ruslan Salei quietly fit in very nicely.

Forsberg might play saturday, but seems more likely for tuesday. He, of course is the most intriguing addition. How well can he perfo

Being a GM is tougher than ever. With information so readily available to fans, thru the internet, the average Joe feels like he knows more than ever... and he does. But there is also so much MIS-information out there, that is taken for gospel truth, fans are often WAY off the mark when it comes to really being able to access the true situation on many teams.

Is it just me... or i
