As for their draft pick, they used #31 to select Alexander Alexeyev. (aka the Russian Steve Stephens).

I laughed.

It's definitely a good trade but you again are on the wrong side of a player evaluation concerning Orpik. He definitely is limited as a player and a role player but he still does a number of things well and still provides aspects of play that NHL teams still need and want.

I think the trade will work out for both teams, but I think your analysis of Orpik is too negative. The cap hit didn't fit the player, especially where he is now, but I bet he has a new contract, albeit for a lower payout, in the next couple of weeks.

He is literally below replacement level in every single way we have to evaluate players.

You're wrong. What you should say is that he is literally below replacement level in every single way I evaluate players in my narrow minded and uninformed point of view.

Of course he will, but it won't be with one of the NHL's progressive smart teams (Toronto, Pittsburgh, Sabres, Arizona, Carolina*). Look for him to sign with the Habs, Islanders, Oilers, Panthers or Canucks.

My point of view is the point of view of every good general manager in the NHL. You amuse me, but you're being ridiculous. Please dial it back some.

Nice fallacy there James. You cannot speak for every GM in the NHL. Your comments are asinine. You had the same point of view concerning Orpik last year yet one NHL team had him as a regular on a Stanley Cup winning team.

The guy who measures things vs the guy who just has a random opinion.

Zero substance here. In your blog and in response here you have offered nothing but a random opinion and numerous fallacies.

Curious JT, by making this trade it makes it possible to essentially sign Carlsson, which leaves them ROUGHLY 12 signed NHL players and a goalie that showed some VERY strong moments, but enough of the weak ones for him to lose his job entering the playoffs as the only one with NHL experience. Are they really in any better shape having made this deal?

And regarding Orpik, while his contract was a HUGE overpayment, what he brought to the Caps was defined by far more than what he did or did not do on the ice. He is an amazing bench and lockerroom leader. They did rid themselves of that contract.

Maybe this season you should actually watch the Caps games.

He was so bad and so needed to be replaced that all he could do was help win the cup.

Solid trade for both teams, everyone gets what they want. I see Orpik signing a 1yr $2 million dollar deal with a cup contender.

I don't see a realistic cup contender wanting him.

He played a good part on a team who just won the cup and you’ve called the best in the league for a few years now. Might want to find some new measurements is my guess.

Most teams have a very similiar player.

I thought only Chayka was a brilliant enough GM to be able to move Orpik, but here we are

The thing is he played very physical in the finals and I can see how a team like Tampa would want to take him on a one year cap friendly deal. He will generate a lot of interest on July 1st provided its in the 1 to 2 Mil range.

Lets not feel to sorry for Orpik, the guy just won the cup, got bought out for a couple million and will likely sign another contract albet be less then what he got before, but still for more money then any of us will ever see.
