Carol Schram: Sizing up the D-men who could be available to the Vancouver Canucks at 7 With the 2018 draft now less than a week away, it's time to read the tea leaves and try to get a read on who the Canucks could end up selecting with their seventh pick.

I know this is a Canucks thread but how in the world does Marc Bergiven still have a job!! My goodness what an amazing oops his most recent trade is.

Montreal still have a world class goalie and a world class Dman
They are also heavily rumored to be in on ROR. They are not finished. If they do land ROR then I expect them to draft Tkachuk. Add in Drouin Domi Gallagher and two young Dmen , they are further along than we are.

Zadina ROR Gallagher
Domi Droin McCarron
Byron Shaw

Mete Weber
Benn Juulsen
? Petry

Price
Niemi

Thanks Carol.

If the top of the draft goes all forwards and leaves Van to choice from Hughes, Dobson, Bouchard, Boqvist? Who's your pick?

More realistically, Who would you be most interested in Van drafting at 7?

It not a bad trade talent wise.
It's just a stupid trade in that it serves no purpose.

Bottom of the league in scoring and you trade a goal scorer for a playmaker.

Tough to say, isn't it?

I'm not emotionally investing in Hughes, because I really think he'll be gone.

I think I'd say—very tentatively—that my order of preference among the other three would be Dobson, Bouchard, Boqvist?

Price and Weber have terrible contracts and aren’t exactly 24-25 year old guys who will be in their primes for a long time.

Passing on Zadina for Tkachuk doesn’t sound like a move I’d brag about.

Domi isn’t exactly a true core player unless he turns it around

Montreal havent won poop with their current group and they would have to make some pretty significant moves to improve IMO - more importantly they need Weber and Price to actually stay healthy and play to their potential, when they don't we saw what happens. Gallagher is currently their best player - thats scary - Patches is arguably their best scorer and he's in limbo/on his way out??
As for their prospect pool, its horrific, they're in no way ahead of us - a lot of BIG "ifs" have to fall into place in order for them to succeed. I don't envy them in any way. Top it off with MB steering the Titanic...

Price Weber still have 3 good years left

Lets see who they take at three , Lets see who they get as a center in a trade or UFA

I've actually moved Price to my #1 spot in terms of worst contracts in the league.

I still can't believe his current deal hasnt even started yet.

A team with 2 of the worst contracts in the league + mediocre at best prospect pool + a bad NHL roster.

I’m not exactly jealous

Plus if Price bounces back to Vezina form, they’ll likely end up picking outside of the top 10

I am not saying they wont be up the creek after the next three years . I am saying they will be better than the Canucks for the next three years

Exactly. Anytime I need to be cheered up I head over to cap friendly to check out Prices contract. 8 years at $10.5MM per. Can they buy it out before it starts?

Who is Montreal's top prospect????

Juulsen

Montreal also have 5 picks in the first two rounds and 5 more in the next three rounds

Zadina

Miller McIssac Ginning or Bahl would help their prospect pool nicely

They better hit some home runs
Looking pretty bare for game breaking talent.

Looks like Craig Button didn't have one mtl prospect in his top 50.
