Probably not but wow was there a lot of talk on TSN, Twitter, etc about how the Sens should just give up the 4th and get this thing over with

Whats the latest they can decide? Could it be even right after montreal decides?

Good write-up Trevor. I like how you don't sugar coat it or pull punches.

Trevor are the Sens concerned about an Offer Sheet on Stone? Normally I would say no with all the cap space you have but if structured with a large signing bonus may force a trade. Just curious.

Seriously - no shortage of material to write about the Sens these days. It's been such a soap opera lately, I wouldn't be surprised if Melnyk came out tonight with an announcement saying he signed Roseanne Barr on the team!

But yeah, I like the write-ups so far - keep it coming in!

They have until they walk up to the podium to make the pick, I don't think there is any deadline other than that.

Are there any sorts of restrictions with this sort of scenario? Let's say Ottawa gets Zadina at 4, could Ottawa turn and trade him to Colorado for that 1st rd pick in 2019? I am not saying it is a good idea or that there is any chance of it happening, I am just curious as to the rules with something like this. With the Karlsson/Hoffman problem, there is a lot that the front office needs to figure leading up to the draft.

No, teams are so risk averse and never do offer sheets, plus Ottawa would match. I am worried about Stone wanting a trade though

My understanding is that once ottawa chooses their player with the 2018 pick, 2019 becomes the property of colorado. They could then trade it for who ever they want.

what's the risk though? pissing of a gm who will never get another job or an owner that is about to sell?

if stone wants a trade, why not just sign an offer sheet?

a predatory 1 year $8M offer sheet with a $7M signing bonus won't be matched.

Oh I agree, offer sheets are totally under-utilized. Not gonna happen though.

if they are going to do that, just let Colorado pick their own guy at 4 for the 2018 pick and make the 2019 condition null

I'm one of those who's holding onto a small sliver of hope that there's another anonymous 3rd-party behind the Karlssons harassment. I'm telling myself it's possible that the Karlssons have assumed guilt b/c of past tension with Hoffman's gf. No doubt the comments about their child was the tipping point, that's repulsive. That's really the only way to get a positive out of the situation.

But even in that scenario, Hoffman may still need to be traded to fully extinguish the hard feelings. Would be nice not to have to give him away for next to nothing.

If I'm wrong, then my opinion changes drastically and I want him gone at any cost.

Sigh. Fun times for Sens haters.

I agree that would be easier. I was just asking because I was not sure if there were any rules that would prevent Ottawa from getting that pick back post draft.

after they make the pick, its 100% property of the Avs so they could just go back and say sure we want Zadina+ now

we'll see if ottawa trades out of it june, before it's an option.

i think that's why drouin was moved in june last year. he was the only guy i thought it could happen with last year.

stone is the only one it makes sense for this year.
