Comparing apples to oranges... sexual assault and rape are 2 different charges. Very greatly in consequences as well.

I know I posted about it a long time ago when desmith got signed by the pens though and there was a report that he admitted to punching her 8-10 times when she was on the ground then spit on her. Not sure if it got taken down after his charges were dropped or not for legal purposes. But when desmith did it he was a “nobody” so nothing got reported to main media but when voynov did it he was a millionaire nhl player playing for a huge media market none the less.

And as for being a repeat offender like I said it only matters when you get caught and proven in court. His wife saying it doesn’t mean anything. Should the NHL have kicked Kane out for years because that girl said he raped her? Not in my books anyways.

My point again is how can a league say 10 punches is a 1 year ban but 6 kicks is a lifetime ban??? Injuries seemed to be about the same so both were physical in nature causing bodily harm to the victim. I think the courts even found Desmiths case worse as he would have got 90 days and voynov only got 60 days in jail. Difference being desmith is an American so they couldn’t deport him and voynov is a Russia so they could deport him.

Sexual assault is rape. It's also a hand on the arse, breast etc. Great degrees of separation but all classified as sexual assault.

We differ in opinion. It's ok. I think what Voynov did is greatly different from what DeSmith did. Different states as well? May explain your 60/90 days thing. DeSmith charges were dropped, Voynov got deported. Could he have had his charges dropped as well - I don't know?

I believe what his wife said, you don't. Again- a difference of opinion. You can repeat the 8-10 punches all you want, it won't change what I think. As I said the circumstances around DeSmith aren't clear - but again, I'm not defending him only my opinion.

The Fosters article describes all the standard punishments of anybody who gets an underage or disorderly in college (probation, community service, alcohol counseling), and tries to make it look like he made a plea deal to get out of an assault conviction.

But, it never actually says he was charged with assault in the first place. Just 2 disorderly charges and resisting arrest. Desmith pleaded not guilty on all charges except the 1 disorderly.

They found that his ex made up what happened, changed her story multiple times and showed no signs of physical abuse. His family considered a lawsuit against the publication because of how much it misrepresented in the case. The USCHO cherry picks quotes to make it look like he just shrugged it off.

Never seen that before but that would make it a lot better for him. If that’s all true and that’s what happened that pretty much clears him. Disorderly conduct can be something as minor as yelling at night. If all is true that’s another reason not to trust the victims until all is proven.

All this is probably a moot point. I cannot see GMJR ever bringing him in. He always makes a point in his interviews about having/seeking quality characters/leaders in the room.

But hypothetically, what do you think the Kings would want in return (if theyre willing to trade him) and what would his contract look like?

"And even now, he said, the reporting of falsehoods continues – as evidenced by a December 6th article in a local newspaper in which a reporter misrepresented the details of DeSmith’s hearing in Dover District Court so badly that his family is considering legal action against the publication."

Might as well read

And even now, he said, the reporting of falsehoods continues – as evidenced by a July 13th blog in Hockeybuzz in which hack blogger Ryan Wilson misrepresented the details of DeSmith’s case so badly that his family is considering legal action against the website.

DK has mentioned a few times he thinks GMJR is going to try to move up in the draft...and not by a little....top 5 pick.

One would think it has to be through Phil. Is Kessel straight up for a top 5 pick smart though? Sure that's pretty good value but does that help the 2018-2019 penguins.

I don't know enough about the draft prospects to know if they'd contribute right away. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me for any of those bottom barrel teams to give up their top pick. Buffalo...no way. Carolina...maybe but 2nd overall is too steep. Montreal...maybe I don't recall heir cap situation. Ottawa is a mess...who knows with them. Arizona we've discussed...since they've committed to OEL they seem to want to win now.

Ha...he's mentioned in one of his chats and he just said it yesterday on his radio spot with Madden. I'm too lazy to go get the links. He was basing it off his one on one with GMJR.

Good to excellent value. Bad move for the Penguins specifically.

your skill trumps the crime you’ve committed. Just look at football. I definitely think Voynov gets another shot in the NHL and I’d bet JR will keep an eye on the situation.

I do not have any use for a woman beater but I will say alcohol or drugs played a part and a second chance was fair in my opinion of DeSmith. Young and foolish and hopefully learned the hard way. Voynov is a little more severe and I would stay clear of him. Keep in mind Craig McTavish killed a person while under the influence and it changed his life forever. He paid his dues and became an extraordinary person doing speeches on drinking and driving to schools etc. Tragic mistake that he will pay for his entire life. However a second chance for him proved beneficial.

I could see this being true but I think you need to get into the top 4 to make it really worth it. The real reason you do it however is to gain cap space to bring in someone from free agency.

Kessel to MTL or PHX for the 3rd or 5th?
Letang to EDM/DET/VAN for a top 10 pick?

No need for picks. Keep Kessel still get Domi and worry about picks when Crosby and Malkin aren’t still performing at such a high level. Win now every year. F picks.

My understanding of this years draft is that a bunch of teams are willing to move down, maybe not out of the top 12 or so though.

After Dahlin and Svechnikov there's a clump of like 10 guys who are all pretty evenly ranked.

It would be sweet for the Pens to move up and get someone like Brady Tkachuk, don't think he's NHL ready next season, though. But, if you trade a large salary to move up in the draft you can obviously sign a big name FA then.

Sheary, Rust? Def does not take a Phil to get a Domi. I’d trade Maatta for him too.
