That's absolutely what he's going to get. Dude is the best defenseman by a country mile in a putrid year for defenseman UFA's. Someone is gonna back up the dump truck for him. - eichiefs9

This is true. The latter part of this is not true... they know they took a shot and had probability/risk assessed. In getting burned a few times, I think they took too much risk. In Strome & Reinhart they were able to overcome via trade. Their handling on Nino from GM and coach was godawful and they should have held out for better. Though despite Clutter's terrible year last year, overall, he did bring some rough edge they needed while being able to skate (which Matt Martin could not). But terrible handling across board on Nino. - B.D. Gallof
TERRIBLE. No other team had their 5th overall playing 5 min a night on the 4th line and then don’t even invite him to camp. Not like well hey kid, show up and we’ll have a look and see. I chirped Nino at the time but if I’m his agent I’m getting my client the heck outta dodge. They cost him money with that nonsensical decision. |

I was half-joking about the latter part, but when you totally swing and miss on 3 out of 4 top-5 picks....you're quite obviously doing something very wrong. And, as you pointed out, they hit on Nino but managed to totally botch his development. |

Let’s also remember the fact that the isles had a Calder candidate (and most like winner) in Barzal, who because of one rookie mistake, was sent back to juniors. He shoulda made the team last year. He was putting up Tavares esq numbers in the Dub. Another joke. |

Meh, I doubt it. They're rebuilding and that would be a large waste of assets that their young guys are going to need in the next 3-5 years. Someone who thinks they're on the cusp of contending and has cap space will go all-in on him. |

I don't think that goofy penalty was the entire reason he was sent back. He didn't look like he belonged out there at the time. And, if I'm being honest, it's kind hard to argue with that decision. It lit a fire under his ass and he dominated last season. |

It's possible if they're big-game hunting, but that Kane deal is awful. That's not gonna help things.
I wouldn't put it past the Avs., honestly. Nobody super-important to sign, only one major deal coming up on the horizon. I think they could swing that. |

I hear you and it is painful to even contemplate. In a post-CBA era, if you keep your picks, you MUST derive helpful NHL players. With Reinhart, it is written about (especially by Cory Pronman) on how picking dmen early can bite you in the ass. So that's the chance you take. This is why they tried to trade up to CBJ's spot to get Ryan Murray (must have felt he had better chance/probability). Then again, for every Reinhart, there is Pulock, who came later in a better draft. |

When you have that kinda talent, you belong. I personally think he looked lost because the coach was lost.
When Lou came here i Read he asked everyone what they thought their role was. Under the Capuano and Snow regime he prob didn’t know what was expected of him. When you’re Calder calibur you belong. |

Is this the same Pulock who didn’t make the team for a few years in a row (including this past year) outta camp? |

yes. Does the time he takes (development) make the draft place null and void? It doesn't. |
