A Grubauer type goalie w=might be the Isles best option. Still think better coaching and system will do wonders for this team. Isles do not need to trade for a Price or Hank.

agreed ...need a better team defense. if that isn't fixed it won't matter who's in goal

100% and its gonna be a real pleasure to see a coach who's here based on merit, and not because he's an ex U of Maine roomates brothers friend from New England.

Isles need an upgrade for Halak but I still think Greiss can be a solid backup. Both goalies were shell-shocked playing behind this lousy D.

Exactly! Any goalie no matter how good will break down facing 50 shots a game.

Greiss should be a back up. On the isles Snow had him sharing the starting position, with "blue chip" Christopher Gibson coming up the pipeline.

Hopefully Gibson is let go. I'm surprised we have not heard anything on Thompson yet. Bridge needs new coaching as well.

Really??? You dont want a mediocre goalie in the American league in your system, and then blame his injury on the big clubs demise? Pffft

Greiss is working with his old trainer and last season, though horrid, hopefully, will just be an aberration. Still don't think he is a starter, more of a 1B (B in case of injury, etc) and solid backup. IF he can get back to his average. The more he plays, the less consistent he gets.

Tempting but no. I will not miss the excuses from Garth and Doug.

I just saw that Matt Carkner was an assistant coach in Brideport. Haha How many handshake deals did Snow make with hard hat hockey players? The new york islanders, where goons finish their careers, and land front office jobs. Cairns, Boulton and now Carkner. Im dying......its laughable. Surprised Chris Simon, isnt running their program down in the coast.

Reasoner too. Lots of signings, which tells me Snow used the promise of helping them get their post-hockey career started to help lure them in.

Unbelievable.......and they wonder why they hadnt won a playoff round in 15 years. No wonder they said the players liked "Snowy". He prob promised them all jobs after they retired from their mediocre careers.

Good thought

I edited my post with literally the same idea. It makes too much sense.

There’s no doubt. It’s prob how he got Guerin and Weight to sign with the isles.

Pretty crazy that this looks like the summer Isles fans have been waiting for for so long. I remember so many depressing July 1s on this site as the signings flew in and the Isles would sign a backup goalie at 12:10 and be done for the day. Fun times ahead.

They have good pieces to improve. They should use almost all of those quality pieces for some D that's not a 7/8 defense type.
A goalie, I hope he doesn't over pay for. Most have already noted, improve the D and the goalie improves.
I would call Nashville and see what they're plans are with either Rinne or Saros with Rinne almost definitely out of reach.
I would kick the tires with NJ about their 2 guys but I still think they're out because they'll want something significant.
I would call in to Washington for Grubauer which sounds like the most likely choice coming from media.
I would also call a team like San Jose and see what they want for a guy like Dell. I know, another back up, unproven but, spend your assets on good D and average goalies become better.
I hope they do not go FA route for an Elliott, not sure if he's a UFA or a Hutton.

Aaron Dell is a 29 year old career minor leaguer/back-up...I'm good on him.

Just looking at the league and what may be up for a trade.
Even the Rinne side of it. If that's a route they try, you can give up more but, only if Nashville takes something back too, like a clutterbuck or a ladd

On Tavares....

"Each day now I have another source telling me it is more likely that Tavares stays on the Island..."

Not sure who the source is, if any, but i'll take good news wherever i can...

He reminds me a ton of Martin Jones, in that he was a backup that had very good success in somewhat-limited starts. He played 35 games this year and posted a .935sv% and 2.35GAA. That's almost half a seasons-worth of starts, so it's not like he played well for 20 games and we're making wild guesses here. It's not a full body of work, but it's not terrible sample either.

11 or 12 might be a steep price for him, but if Lou can use both 2nd's and maybe another asset to pry him out of there, that would be a big win. That affords us the opportunity to either use one or both of them in a trade for a defenseman or just keep them and make the picks.

He's got a partial NTC and a full-NMC, I doubt he's gonna waive it to go to a team in our position. I'm not so confident Saros isn't a product of playing behind the best top-to-bottom defense in the entire league either. He's small.
