- Hockeyislife

Good question bc he made a good camp last year. I’ll check. I hope so

Who is the "he" in this statement?

A hyperbole writer we were speaking of.

That was Wang’s deal. Neil smith wanted to sign him to a reasonable deal and went behind wangs back with Dp’s agent. That was straw that broke camels back... and Wang fired him. Then as punishment, DP fired that agent... so he never got a piece of that deal. DP’s father represented DP for Wang’s crapball lifetime contract
- B.D. Gallof

Neil was right on that one. He wanted to give DP a 5 year deal. Wang knew better of course.

Correct. To be fair.... it took Garth at least another year to get committee over with and a rebuild instead of going for vets with no prospects. So trying to convince Wang of anything is hard to do right out gate. Charles was dead wrong and it was a huge mistake

None of these problems would have happened if Charles let Neil run the show. Neil did learn under Bill and Al and he was not a rookie GM. Maybe it was not all Neil, but he was the GM when the Rangers finally won a Cup. Neil had the respect of players and agents and Isles would have won a lot more with Neil than they did with Garth.

Neil smith made his bed. He began WW3 ignoring the owners wishes right out gate. There is a reason he hasn’t seen an NHL org since and it will likely remain that way. Had he stayed, Botta would have been canned a lot sooner, btw. He would have turned over org.

In the end, you must do owners bidding/vision. Can’t yes them to death and then strong arm them

I agree Neil should have never set foot on this team if he did not have full control. Neil was wrong. Wang still should have gave the power to Neil and let him pick the coaches and players right off the bat.

This is surprising. I'm not sure Lou is willing to wait for Trotz to be free though?

That was crazy Wang.

I agree. However, Rick brought up the acquisition of Ryan Smyth. That was The Committee which was led by Wang also. Rick didn't distinguish Snow's decisions, made during or post-Committee, so I didn't either.

No idea why the Caps would just not pay Trotz and especially with all reports Lou is interested.

I just don’t understand the rational. This guy took Ovechkin and the team all the way to the finish line. First coach to do so. I’d think that’s deserving of an extension. Somewhat puzzling

I suspect that Trotz was hoping for an extension during the season, but management decided to wait to see how the playoffs turned out, due to his previous 2nd round failures. Now Trotz is in the driver's seat for the reasons you state. Management took a risk, but now they're going to have to pay up to keep him.

Having said all that, I would have guessed they would have at least made him an offer. Unless this is some sort of negotiating ploy????

Trotz has been a very good coach for a long time and deserves to be paid. Trotz would have won a Cup with the Preds if he had the right offensive talent.

Maybe he's asking too much. It's also possible he's asking for an expanded role. Who knows.

They def blew it but there was talk that The Caps were going to give Associate Coach Todd Reirden a shot at the coaching Job. That’s the reason they didn’t extend BT in the off season.
You have to think if Lou wants the best coach out there Trotz is definitely in his sights.
