Not sure I understand this..... - JohnScammo
team make-up is analytics based. Lou was just at Toronto which also used it heavily. I'd think whoever is hired is analytics-friendly. Sheldon Keefe is big in the use of analytics.

It's my understanding that, if you view the players using analytics, many of them suck, to put it crudely. So I guess I'm a little surprised....

Nope. But the goaltending sure sucked. Prob coaching choice and plans too.

JS, it's another tool to be used however team systems and play certainly skew individual analytic stats.
I don't believe for a moment teams are built purely on analytics. NFW.
I worry we might have to overpay a little given the rumors of Carolina souring on Darling. If we can avoid losing the other pick, I'm all for it - bgainesDM
I think giving up the 12th overall for a goaltender with a career high of 35gp in a season is overpaying enough.
Here's a good list of what goaltenders in similar (everyone please note the word "similar") situations were traded for:
edit: Just to tack on to this....I think Cam Talbot's trade is probably the closest indicator of where Grubauer's starting price would be. There's some very obvious competition for Grubauer (CAR) and probably some less obvious teams that may get in the mix (maybe CGY?), so obviously competition is going to breed a higher asking price. Isles should be trying to use both their 2nd's and maybe someone like Ho Sang or Nelson's RFA rights to entice the Caps to send Grubauer their way. I'm comfortable parting with #12 (by itself) if the Caps 31stOA pick came along with it.

12 does seem high. I like giving up one of the 2's and Nelson. I would also be fine giving up the 12 if the 31st was coming back.
