Oddly enough, anyone could have predicted this. Phoe......Arizona has been playing with house money for years. The league will not allow them to go bankrupt so spend away! OEL - Obvious Equalization Larceny. |

Chayka is Genius??? It is a bad signing and it will hurt them in couple of years. They should go for a rebuild again. As of now, they don't have a super star player and they got couple of 2nd level star players. Teams like winnepeg, nashville got more than 10 of them.
I am really sorry but he will get fired within 2 years. |

Bad signing huh? I bet if he signed for 7 x 8 with your team it would be hailed as great. He is 26, has scored 20 goals on multiple occasions and it always in the 40-50 point range. Other than Burns or Karlsson, there are not many other D who can say that. It's a great deal, one that will have more positive ramifications. Hammer is going to re-sign (same agent) so our top 5 D is set.
I'm curious as to why you think it's a bad deal? Because of plus/minus, which is overrated as a stat? This type of deal shows that Barroway is committed to spending dollars to keep his top players (re-signed Raanta, re-signing Hammer, re-signing OEL) which in my humble opinion will go a long way around the league to show that we can be a playoff team sooner rather than later...

I think itβs a really good deal.. the guy is 26 and already had multiple 20 goal seasons.. on a poop Arizona team. Put him in Washington and John Carlson in Arizona, and see what happens.
With the cap steady rising and big name D getting 10 million + soon enough, this will be a great contract in 3 years. |

Hmm, -28 last year?
I always thought that defensemen were first judged by their ability to play defense. All those goals against must have been the fault of someone else. Unless they start giving points in the standings for fantasy accomplishments. |

OEL is for the money. He has been [-4,-18,-6,-25,-28] last 5 seasons.
Points, smoints......zzzzz
If AZ doesn't change the 4 lines they have in front of their D, it will mean NOTHING that he signed there other than saying "gee, we have OEL, yay". zzzz....
AZ has cap space to add good players yes, but his signing means NOTHING to attract any other top free agent UFAS, any player signing there is only for the money and a warm climate, that wants doe and a permanent vacation to AZ and no chance at a cup, just make a living. How the GM got him to sign must have made some insane promises to him about the team turning it around.
They could still trade him....don't rule it out.
He would need an all-star cast around him to reach his possible potential.
This is NOT happening in AZ. |

You didn't get my point here. He is a great player but there is no other assets to compete in the league. I don't see them as a competitor for next 5 years and he will be 32 and wont be same player as now.
The return will be better if they traded him to EDM or TOR or any other team. Again it is good contract but bad for Arizona. |
