Carol Schram: Will the Vancouver Canucks move the 7th pick? Plus, surgery for Juolevi If the Vancouver Canucks' seventh pick in the draft is in play, their best option may be to move down in an effort to try to secure an extra pick.

Thanks Carol.

Yeah it was pretty odd how Gudbranson AND Tanev were handled this year.

So many players with injuries every season. A few freak injuries but still. Back and wrists seem to be the most common. A few shoulders. Players aren't staying healthy. Maybe time to find a different trainer and a few staff members.

I will be extremely disappointed to the point I'll walk on these clowns if they trade the 7th overall pick for a player. I could handle Noah Hanifin straight up, or, for a bit player and our first as an addition, but, that's it.

Only because Hanifin is 22 next year would that be an acceptable return IMO. Trading for a guy like O'Reilly is a non-starter with me because of his age and how many holes there are in the rest of the lineup.

Moving down is fine, because he'd capture another pick most likely, which is what they need to do at this point in their evolution.

Why the continual shortcut route, it just baffles me as to what they're thinking?

Not sure Hanifin is even available anyway. I think they're listening, but it won't be straight up for the 7th overall.

Thanks Carol! interesting to hear NYI's picks are potentially up for grabs. I'd be talking to both Edler and Tanev about moving there or to Edmonton, pronto. Was either one of the teams Dhaliwal was saying called about Sutter?

Getting another frist round pick in a draft loaded with d-men should absolutely be a priority IMO.

He's worth more than that, but stranger things have happened. I would think they'd be very interested in our goalie prospects.

Maybe. But with Alex Nedejkovic and Callum Booth already in the system, it seems unlikely.

Word was they were trying to pry Grubbauer away from Washington.

I just don't see the benefits as they're not in a position to compete for anything yet so why add to the pick, taking away from your depth, to get a player? Just doesn't make sense to me.

I admittedly don't know anything about your goalie prospects, but with all due respect are either doing anything/looking good?

Make the pick if a can't miss prospect is there.

JB talks always about 4 forwards and 2 maybe 3 D they like there.

If MTL and DET don't take 2 of those 6 players then trade down.

Ottawa moved up 1st spot from 12 to 11 and it cost them a 3rd round pick. Which is really the only trade up in the recent past near the top 10.

There's only one reason: You really think Hanafin is at a minmum #2 and that the guys available at 7 do not have as high of a ceiling as Hanafin.

The Vancouver Canucks have revealed that top prospect Olli Juolevi will undergo a microdiscectomy to correct a problem in his back, and will update on his recovery timeline afterwards. Zach Parise underwent a similarly-named surgery earlier this year, and was given a timeline of eight to ten weeks. He returned to the Minnesota Wild lineup exactly ten weeks later, which—if this surgery does not prove to be more intensive—should give Vancouver fans a sigh of relief as Juolevi prepares to try and make the team in 2018-19.

Parise is much older but didn't have a very good season.

You're welcome to either Markstrom or Nilsson if you want an NHL-ready goaltender

Alex Nedeljkovic had a rough year last year but was tied for the AHL lead in wins with 31 in 49 games.

Dunno if he'll ever actually reach his potential, but things got a lot better as the year went on.

Van should trade for him, fit right in with the rest of the press box staples.

So realistically, still looking for goalie prospects then. Hopefully they would not consider Demko... I'd be very happy with Canucks included a forward Carolina would be happy with. I think Granlund would be a good fit on multiple levels. #7, granlund and dipietro I could stomach as a package.

Honestly, trading for Parise and taking on his awful contract should net some serious pieces. Eriksson Ek and a 1st imo, it's such a bad contract. Maybe too long to take on though, even for us (who will not be good again for 3-4 years, seriously guys let's dig in).
