My only concern would be that it's for 3 more years. I think if it was one or two, his contract is a lot more attractive. It would more difficult to find a team who wants it for 3 years.

The NHL is the model of inconsistency when it comes to rules enforcement.

I don't disagree but if you trying to free up the cap space they will need to deal a pick or prospect to go along with it.

I just don't see adding a bunch of supposed "talent" that didn't work out in Carolina and think they will all hit in Chicago. I think Rask would be a nice add. I think Faulk is a fringe top 4 d man, and Skinner doesn't do much for me. The only thing that may motivate skinner is being a UFA after this upcoming year....but if people are going to say NO to Tavares, are they going to say yes to Skinner at 7-8 million AAV? I sure as hell dont' want that deal.

Because I'm bored at work today:

To Carolina:

Saad ($6 million)
Anisimov ($4.55 million)
Hossa ($5.275 million)
Forsberg ($0.75 million)
27th overall in 2017
Rights to Ian Mitchell

To Chicago
Darling (50% retained $2.01 million)
Faulk ($4.833 million)
Skinner ($5.725 million)
Rask ($4 million)
3rd round pick in 2020

- DarthKane

No thanks on Darling.

Hawks HAVE to stop bring ex-players back. Just doesn't work and feels like a PR stunt to me.

Regarding the Hawks and trades... Names like Saad/Murphy might be in play just due to the simple fact that they don't have NMC/NTC on their contracts and they are still young.

Moving Hossa's contract shouldn't be a big deal, but they by no means "have to" move it.

They missed the boat on moving AA two summers ago. Hopefully they try to get something for him this summer and get a better 3C. (He still isn't a legit 2C)

The Hawks needs

1) Lockdown the goalie situation (if CC is done, they absolutely need to add here)
2) A #2 dman who can play RD.
3) A defensive C that can play in the bottom 6 and is tough to play against.
4) A top 6 Winger

In an ideal world, they'd be wanting to add 2 Dmen who can play big minutes and take defensive shutdown roles, but it will be hard enough to probably add 1. Keith is still great, but it is borderline if he can still be a top pair shutdown Dman anymore. The Hawks would be sitting much better if they didn't have to lean on him so much at his age.

We can look at this roster in 100 different ways, but the biggest downfall has been the depth and quality of the D dropping year after year after year. The Hawks used to have #2 and #7 who were both in the top 20 in the league during their prime and had other legitimately solid options to round out the top 4. Now Keith and Seabrook are older and the overall depth is not as strong.

Goaltending is a much easier fix and the Hawks have forward options, but the D is gonna haunt them if it doesn't improve to an acceptable level.

Very attainable.

Have 6+ in cap space at a cap at 75 million. Add in 3-5 million once the cap lands somewhere between 78-80 based on final HRR numbers

They will trade Hossa's deal this summer. They have to.

That's 14-16 million right there, and AA's NTC doesn't kick in until 7/1. OR murphy's 3+ deal.....that's another 18-20 or 17-19 million in cap space.

HOWEVER....

1. Tavares has to be available 7/1
2. He has to want to come to Chicago

I recall the summer of 2009 when nobody thought the Hawks had the space to sign Hossa...…..

- SteveRain

We didn't have the space, they had to circumvent the cap (legally at the time) to do it!

Personally, I don't want to see Murphy traded. I think there's a lot of potential there.

He just had the misfortune of being the guy coming back in the Hammer trade. People had (and still have) unrealistic expectations of him. They want him to be Hammer 2.0 and that's just not going to happen.

Let the dude develop into his game. He has great size and can throw the body. He'll be a good stay-at-home blueliner if folks give him a chance to develop.

Just my opinion.

Fellas - why does anyone want to see the Hawks move one big contract, only to bring in another?

Say 'no' to 7/8 year deals at 8-10 M per.

Say 'yes' to a deal along the Carolina route where you can potentially get some guys who will make an impact and not eat up all the cap.

- Hank3Henshaw

To win meow since Keith and Seabrook are still useful and assuming he is healthy Crow is one of the best goalies in the league which is clearly necessary unless you have the best top 4 in the league and 3 lines (they literally had two first lines and a second line) that can score like the hawks did in 2010 and probably wont ever happen again.

Nope. We're back to him jerking guys around and not giving them a chance to grow. See, Kempny, Michael for an example of Q's idiocy. If we can continue to run Seabrook out game in and game out watching him consistently walked wide in the D-zone then the others should be afforded some leeway as well. Double Standard, egos...whatever you want to call it, Q badly handled Kempny. Not the first time.

Kempny is 27 so this has NOTHING to do with young players, rather players who should be developed a bit, given a chance, put into the right spots. .... Sorta like the Stanley Cup Champions did. Kempny played a very nice role on that team, but couldn't find playing time on the trainwreck that was the Blackhawks defense? I am not buying that.

I must have missed the legendary amazing future HOF Kempny everyone loves as "the missing piece"..who couldn't even make it to the NHL until he was 26-27

Trading SAAD and Murph now would be a mistake. with the cap going up that much this year contracts are going to also go up. They may both looked overpaid today but lets talk about after next season when salaries go up 7% from a year earlier. We would be smart locking up Nick this off season on a Long term deal.

I'm not buying that a coach with a reputation for being a "player's coach" and liked by players to be incompetent at managing his players. He isn't infallible and he may expect more from his dmen, but the "not giving them a chance" is based on a number of assumptions.

1) You (and nobody here) really knows the relationship between Kempny and Q, what was said at practice, or behind closed doors. Hard to judge a situation from this far back when you have maybe 10-20% of the information.
2) It isn't as if Kempny was some young draft pick coming into the system who needed to learn to be a pro player.
3) Kempny got 81 games over nearly 2 seasons with the Hawks and he is what he is, a #4/#5 guy.

He filled a hole for the Caps who needed someone to shore up their top 4. The Hawks have like 3 other guys who can play those minutes on the left side.

Murphy change team and systems but was still #3 for total minutes played on the Hawks D last season over 76 games he played. What is the big deal? Did you expect him to play more than Keith and Seabrook?

FYI - the Athletic has the Hawks taking Wahlstrom with their 8th and Rasmus Sandin with their 27th.

If the Hawks trade their 27th pick it better be for a top 4 D because there will be some damn good players available at that spot that could really help out in 2-3 years.

- Justin Lowe

Not my first choices, but given how I expect the draft to shake out, Wahlstrom+Sandin would be great haul. 100% agree with the 2nd part, 27th pick is a valuable piece, especially this year.

These caps players slamming beers on their parade stage are priceless.

I'm then giggling thinking about McDonough stroking out fearing that Hawk ford auto would pull ad dollars if the Hawks players did something similar.

What a bender these guys are on....sure, seen some guys tear it up, but a whole team for this long giving ZERO craps?

I like the guy. I think he's going to be solid for the Hawks.

Bc he played with the 2019 #1 overall pick Hughes as his center. I still would love him to fall to 8 and bury feeds from Patrick Kane.

That's what makes Darth's trade proposal brilliant. He moves a pick that doesn't even exist.
