Completely agree. Dan Marino was possibly the best quarterback in the history of the NFL but he never won a Super Bowl.

It is a prestige thing to win though.

I'll agree with this part, until Brady came along.

Ovechkin is to Dio-era Sabbath as Crosby is to Ozzy-era Sabbath.

I loved the Dio era Sabbath.

I don't want the Caps winning the Cup 'cause I don't want Tom Wilson winning a cup. Scumbags like that deserve no glory.

I don't want Wilson or Oshie to win in. And even as a Pen, I never liked Orpik. I also am not a fan of their owner or fan base.

As for the Sabbath comments, I just meant that Ozzy gets the mainstream band accolades over Dio just like Crosby gets all the team accolades over Ovechkin. It's a bad analogy, I just love me some Dio.

Are those stats play offs only or for the whole season? If it is the latter they are useless.

I mean, if you can't capture something on a chart of raw data, how could it possibly be true?

Made this comment while watching Game 3. It’s annoying as hell that players only get their due when the team wins. We dealt with this BS during the post-2011 doldrums when Sid and Geno were labled “unclutch” and “bad leaders” while Jonathan Toews was all of a sudden the best player in hockey because those Hawks teams were juggernauts. I feel like the only player in recent memory to truly get his due dispite playoff disappointments is Henrik Lundqvist.

Ovi has never not been great, and in his prime he has never not been a complete player. If anything, he’s losing his edge a bit and is less of a physical pain to play against than he was even two years ago. This narrative is boosh.

That said, go Vegas!

Considering you can tell very little about a player looking at those stats I would disagree.

Still glad we got Malkin rather than Ovi...but Ovi sure is a fun player to watch.

I think that Ovechkin is a better player pound-for-pound, but I'll always take a center over a winger, and it's worked out fairly well for Malkin and the Pens.

doesn't Ovie have like 20+ pounds on Malkin?

CA isn't a good predictor of someone's defensive level. First of all I'd rather see a defensemen give up three shots from the outer hash than one from the slot, but CA won't help show that. Ovi and Nick were always so dominant back then, even more so then now, that they were in the offensive zone more, and thus got more shots, etc. than they gave up. CA is a horrible stat to use if trying to measure defensive ability.

Absolutely. Malkin is the top dog. He's underrated.

i was actually trying to say that malkin is probably better "pound for pound" since he weighs less...

Nice theory

Anyway no bias I just think Malkin is the more complete player out of the two...but not by much!
