It does suggest that ownership views Q on a very short leash.
- z1990z

Ya think? Didn't realize both Q and StanBow got extensions in 2016.

1) Noah Dobson - He fell in the rankings but I think the Hawks will realize his potential if he is still there.
2) Riley Nash (Can play the shutdown C role the Hawks need)
Honorable mention Greg Pateryn - Can play 20 minutes a night, good size, can handle the Defensive shutdown assignment without hurting the team and plays the right side.
3) Adam Clendening or Tomas Jurco
4) Forsberg (He was the best of the bunch overall last year and I think he bounces back from his confidence issues)
5) Tyler Sikura (I think Dylan making it is less surprising, but I think his brother has a shot at 4th line minutes)

Edit: Just to add, for UFA market, I think even a modest rise in the cap is going to result in some inflated salary for the top UFA players, so i think the Hawks should aim lower and try to get a few guys who can be signed for a more reasonable amount under the radar. A lot of teams looking to spend and not that many top end UFA.

I'm almost hoping for a Delia/Forsberg combo down at the Rock for a year. I think that will be super beneficial.
- SoftServe

Agreed. Let them battle it out and see who next in line in succeeding Crawford is IF we have to cross that road next season...

1. Hawks will reach on Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

2. Calvin De Haan

3. Jurco

4. Scott Darling brought back as part of a deal for Justin Faulk.

5. Ejdsell/Luke Johnson

I think finding a veteran back up is important, so we can allow Delia and Forsberg to split time in Rockford for a year.

Who am I kidding, Hawks will be signing Tavares

Hmmmm... you might be on to something there. Perhaps Hawks move CC along with a deal for Darling and Faulk.

Well, I guess it’s a crapshoot now, but if we were to go by Eklunds rumor chart,We are not getting anybody, and we are going to be stuck with the same Smurfy garbage as last year. Here’s hoping some of the rumors that there are going to be some big changes hold true.

Falling on deaf ears but I would still like either Brady Tkachuk or Evan Bouchard. With the 1st. Pick.

FWIW, Eklund reporting the Isles are interested in moving both of their #1 picks for a goalie. Would you trade Crawford for the two #1's?

I would. I don't think this team is a contender anymore. time to start the rebuild you would get 3 really good players.

If Wahlstrom is still on the board at 8? Do you pass on him?

Answering Justin's questions:

1) Wahlstrom, Kotkaniemi, or Dobson. I think the Hawks go with Kotkaniemi. Bowman likes his Europeans.

2) The Hawks will try hard and likely swing and miss on Tavares, and possibly Carlson as well. The more realistic UFA to pursue is de Haan as others have picked.

3) Hayden is a must so top priority for RFAs. Hinostroza, Jurco, and Duclair are nice if the money is there but don't bend over backwards to retain them.

4) Forsberg is likely the backup. Delia needs to be the starter in Rockford for at least a season. If the Hawks look at a UFA, I like Ward, Bernier, or Hutchinson. Maybe Hutton but I think someone else throws more money at him.

5) The Sikura Brothers. Agree with breadbag that Dylan won't be that big of a surprise but Tyler would as a 4th liner. I think both Ejdsell and Nilsson will have strong camps but one will really surprise and possibly steal a spot (leaning towards Nilsson).

Some of the D prospects may have strong camps but I think all of them (Carlsson, Hillman, Gilbert, Raddysh, and Jokiharju assuming he signs this summer) need extensive seasoning in the AHL first.

If the Hawks are serious about moving Crawford, I say trade him to the Islanders for both of their #1's and then talk to the Hurricanes about getting Darling back.

If you could improve the blueline a bit and get a goalie that is capable of keeping you in the game-- yes. I would.

You could flip one or both of those #1's for something really nice

No thanks on Darling.

Hawks have to stop bringing back former players. It doesn't work and I think Darling showed who he really is this past year.

Shocked by this quote by Wirtz:

"We're not going to have a knee-jerk reaction," Wirtz said. "You can't let your emotions be in control." Crawford "tells me he's okay. We'll see."

Then the usual:

Overall, "I think the team will be fine." But, "if things are off at the beginning of the year, that's a different story. . . .Nothing lasts forever."
Asked if that means changes could occur right after the holiday season if the team is doing poorly, Wirtz had a short answer: "Yes."

Answering Justin's questions:

1. “With our 1st selection in the NHL Entry Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks are proud to select Evan Bouchard, playing it safe.

2. My #1 UFA target this off-season is John Karlson (late of the Washington Capitals). John Tavares is intriguing, but I don't see how the math works. I also could see the Hawks not going big in the UFA market if they get a guy like Falk in a trade, or if they decide they like a lot of their young guys long term and they want to start signing them early.

3. The current Hawks RFA we need to sign last (or not at all) is Tomas Jurco

4. The Blackhawks backup goalie in October will be Anton Forsberg (but I really am pulling for Colin Delia).

5. The most surprising Blackhawks player that makes the team for opening night is Luke Johnson

I thought Wirtz's most revealing answer came when I asked him if he had any regrets giving long-term contracts to Toews, Kane and Duncan Keith, all of whom have deals not set to expire until the 2022-23 season.
"No," he said. "It was the right thing to do."
But, he immediately added, "Now they have to earn it."

Just my guess, but I don't see many teams if any trading first's for goalies anymore. Yet alone two top 15 picks...I'd be thinking B level prospect

I could see the Isles making a trade like that, though. They really need a solid goaltender--especially if that's one of the selling points to keep JT around--which has been rumored that's a major thing they need to do to keep him.

I don't think it does.

Hawks need to bolster the blueline like before. That's the winning method. If you have a solid defensive core, you can get away with an "average" goalie who will make the routine saves and keep you in games--you don't need a dude to stand on his head every night; because the defense will be eliminating those chances (in theory).

I guess, with the cap and guaranteed contracts. Cost controlled players are gold, it just doesn't seem prudent.
