The only real plus for SJ is he’s 26. Term is okay but the $$ is too much for a bubble wrapped 45pt winger. If he can somehow stay healthy (needs a miracle) it could end up being an okay deal...but I feel it’ll still bite them in the ass. |

how much talent has the other teams he has played for compared to the Sharks? And Kane plays with something the Sharks lack, Toughness. He played the Vegas series with a bum knee & shoulder. I think he will be fine & if he stays on the 1st line & Thornton comes back for 1 year he will get more than 50pts in a season. Next up sign Tavares DW |

He did play with Jack Eichel and Ryan O'Reilly for an entire season. He was still average. |

Contracts are getting out of hand again so expect another lockout soon. When a player that had mediocre pts during his career gets 7mil, thats a big no-no. Remember when that $$ was for the Kariya's of the world, getting 50 goals, 100pts, now half that is enough. Its a bad trend. |

I think the dollars and term could've worked. Just not together.
Even if he is no longer a distraction and has found his place in SJ. That's still a lot of coin for an injury prone player with not the greatest point production

RFA vs UFA bud, cant compare the 2. If Johnny was hitting the open market as a UFA, he would be getting way more than 7m |

Didn't San Jose also give up their first round pick for resigning Kane? THAT is what makes this the worst deal in the league right now. |
|
|
|
Bad move by the Sharks as ;
1) it will cost them a 1 st rounder instead of a 2nd rounder in 2019 which will be a lottery pick. San Jose will have the option to keep that 2019 and defer the 1st going to Buffallo until 2020. The only problem with that is that 2020 SJ 1st rounder will be a lottery pick as well. Same position Ottawa is in this year.
2) The true Kane is going to show up once he has a guaranteed contract. He is a selfish player and a loner...... not a team player. ( Maybe he can get a condo on Alcatraz island.... and fly a personal Helicopter into practice and games just as he used to fly into Toronto from Buffallo for N.B.A. games).

meh...the sharks window is to win now, and Kane is a weapon that can help. If the Sharks are a lottery team next year, then something went very wrong and its not bc of Kane.
Cost of doing business to get a high end rental and extend them before they hit open market. |

True, but I think Ehlers and Pastrnak would be serious comperables. I think both players are more productive offensively and much more effecient defensively. Not to add they are at least 6 years younger. |

Full disclosure had him here in Winnipeg....putting that aside 😁,
He is 6 years removed from his only 30 goal season, has had a best of 57 points (same year).
Career minus player, averaging around 60 games played last 5 years....
to me it seems rushed and an overpayment. That is a ton of money for him. |

Shark window???so you sign him for 7 years because of a window? Then what, he’s one of your building blocks? Core guys?
He plays well in contract years and when HE wants. Your paying in term and $ because of a good playoff. |

Why is this still not official?
I was pretty sure the Canucks were talking that Sedin money and throwing it at Kane --- which I thought was a mistake. Glad to have missed out on this one.
And that sound you are hearing is the Shark's window closing. Good luck in years 4 through 7. |
