Paul Berthelot: What does the future hold for the Blue Jackets goaltending? Blue Jackets have plenty of options with their goalies. What direction are they going to take?

Maybe see if Bobo would take an 3 extension? 7.5 per I really love this Columbus team going forward. Jones and Werenski is absolute dynamite for you guys.

30 isn't that old for a goalie. Paying him 8 million a year probably isn't a great idea though.

Agreed on the value of Korpisalo. He needs to spend some time as a starter (i.e. bob injury) in order to get that kind of return.

MTL was nice enough to (frank) it up for everyone with good goalies though

Zero chance he signs for 3 years, He'll get from Columbus or another team in FA at least a 5 year deal if not longer- Too much risk on his part if he takes a 3 Likely his last big payday and he's earned it. Although playoff issues fall on him the team D looked far different than they did most of the season last 2 years

Bob is a beast, but for the Jackets fans' sake, I hope they don't sign him to a massive long-term deal like Carey Price.

Bob is one of the all time chokers in the playoffs going back to his Flyers days. He has never won more than 2 games in any series. He has never played any playoff game where he hasn’t given up at least 3 goals. Think about that. The Jackets will never win anything the post season with this guy. Trade him while he still has value.

Star goalies routinely play into their late 30s.... really not a concern.
5 to 6 years is the term he'll want. The question will be the dollar and if CBS wants him

I'd rather go with Bernier/Ullmark next year. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Bob fan, but if he does want a raise from $7.5, that's too rich for my blood

Korpisalo actually saved the boat at times during the season, he seems on cups of being not a franchise goaltender but a sort of Allen, Talbot or Gibson. Someone who can excel with the right defence in front of him, add Merzlinkis and you have an intriguing tandem.

Korpisalo's stats have gotten worse each year, from 15/16 (2.60, .920) to 16/17 (2.88, .905) to 17/18 (3.32, .897).

The question is simply 'Is the CBJ better with him or without him?'

With all due respect to the haters on this thread Bob was not the reason why they lost to Washington this year. It seems that injuries were the main reason, along with a disappearing act by a few players up front after it was 2-0 CBJ. It was a definite improvement by Bob over last season's debacle. It does give one hope that he will improve his performance in the 2018-19 playoffs, assuming the CBJ makes it in.

IMO they are worse without him, but sadly the upcoming season will tell the tale. The defensemen are young, but they have enough experience to see they are one of the best units in the league 1-6.

The forwards are in great shape, Torts can roll four lines if he wants. We still need offense, we need one more dominant player up front, and I wish the team would go after Tavaras. But I believe this team can play for the Cup in 2019 as is.

This team is set to be the best team the CBJ has ever had this upcoming season, barring massive injuries. If you take Bob out of the equation now there is no way it can compete for the Cup.

But does that justify keeping him after this year? We will know after the playoffs next year.
