we see Moore is likely to be paid in the $3.4 million range annually while de Haan's cost is projected to be ~$1.7 million.

1.7 mil for dehaan? gimme some of that k2 your smoking. he will get way more than that. 4-5 mil is my guess

"Using Matt Cane's free agent projections"

"I think getting de Haan at that price is a little optimistic"

Glad you read before you criticize.

It's a little sad to hear the Rangers are going in heavy on Erik Karlsson and the Devils should target Calvin de Hann.

Also, de Hann made $3.3M last year. I don't know how the program works but expecting to pay $ 1.7M for a 27 year old defender seems a little facocta. $1.7M sounds like maybe half price at best which is a bit beyond a little optimistic.

That's not meant as a criticism of you, Todd. Just saying Matt Cane seems off on this one.

He's not going to get 4-5 million, either. He's coming off a bad injury and played for a defensive train-wreck. Not to mention he's only played a full season once in his career. I'd expect a contract for him to be around the $3-3.5 million range. Basically what he made last year.

De haan would be an upgrade over Moore but the Devils would still be a lower seed which fizzles out in the first round. A bigger move needs to be in the picture.

From what I remember of the model, ice time, special teams and points are the main factors (there might be a couple things I'm forgetting). It's based on what teams have paid for in the past. It's done well enough overall that SportsNet has used it in their free agency coverage. It's still going to be wrong most of the time because it's trying to project salaries of free agent negotiations.

He sucks. He tricks people into thinking he's a puck moving dman because he's a good skater and has a good shot, but he's bad defensively and he can't make a pass.

Dont fear the Rangers. No one will go to them especially when other teams can offer the same $$ and actually win. Rangers are on decline with no goalie past Henrik. If EK65 wants to win he'll look at NJ over NYR any day.

Based on his play when he's healthy, he's worth more than 3.5. But he made 3.3 last year and he only played 33 games.

The only thing that makes me think he could make more than that is the free agent market for blue-liners is so awful there might be multiple teams bidding for his services.

At 4-5 million long term I would stay away. Don't have any other good solutions for the left side though.
