I think what you hope happens is you trade it for an actual NHL d-man. In a couple years if any of these prospects we already have develop then you move a d-man for help elsewhere.

PC as a GM can't afford to just go ahead and let the d work their problems out and hope everything works out. There is a potential this group could do that, but if it didn't he's fired. He needs to do something to make it look like he's actually doing something.

At least he can say he plugged one hole, but not all of them. How do you explain to your boss that your plan to stay idle again, failed again?
