You should change the cover photo to Vegas b/c we all know who is wining - the person who has had 100% control of which players are on his team this current year and is beating all expectations by a landslide.

It's a no brainer and should not be debated.

In fact, I would gladly bet money on the ex-WallStreet gambler for winning the award.

George Mcphee

He's actually the one guy where this award makes sense. Guys like Yzerman and Chevy did the majority of their work over years. GMGM is truly a guy who's decision in one calendar season made a contender.

Squeaking into the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round after years of failure while having a good young core and high draft picks isn't much of an accomplishment.

Usually I say the GM and Coach if the year are the ones that win the cup. That’s the only real goal.

But this year they should go to McPhee and Gallant win or lose.

Nobody. GM of the Year is the dumbest award in all of sports.

Didn't McPhee sign Gallant to be the coach? So the combination of the picks and certainly the direction of the coach made LVG the best expansion team ever no matter what the sport. How McPhee couldn't win is beyond my ability to understand the award ( and goaltender interference)

GMGM 100%

It's a shame he didn't make a team this well rounded in Washington.

If McPhee doesn't win it, there should be an inquiry.
Winnipeg has a great young core, assembled over many years, and indeed will be a contender for the next 10 years.
But an expansion team with 100+ points and winning ( at least) 2 rounds of the playoffs?
That is a slam dunk if there ever was one.

Chevy doesn’t deserve it. He Mason. D-. Traded for Stastny. A+. Washes out.

McPhee wins, hands down. That or Ken Holland for raping GMGM in that Tatar trade.

McPhee for sure. Not only did he build a winning team NOW which includes some high quality young players - but he also stockpiled a bunch of future assets. They drafted three times in the top 15 I think last season and have extra picks in the future as well(even after using some at the deadline).

The fact that they are a great team right now means they didn't trade their UFA vets for assets - but instead they might be able to just keep them. They already locked down Marchesseault. Neal could easily sign on long term in Vegas.

It's amazing to think that they will likely not have to suffer one single year of garbage as a new franchise. The team has talent, depth, prospects and picks. They are a sustainable winner.

McPhee/Vegas? GM of year?? Nonsense! They bought their success with the $500 million expansion fee. In return for paying the big fat expansion fee to the league (which is not included in league revenue for player's cap purposes) the existing teams for the first time had to expose many more talented players than previous expansion drafts. Vegas bought and paid for their contender. Don't kid yourself, it's all about money. I don't think McPhee is a horrible GM but he is a solid average at best. Remember though McPhee is responsible for one of the worst trades ever trading Forsberg for Erat!

You’re a (frank)ing retard. Jesus. The expansion rules were still restrictive and they received nothing but bottom six and bottom four players. They traded for some better players in return for not selecting certain players that would be exposed by default.

McPhee deserves this. And they seem to be whipping Chevy’s team, too.
