not accurate. Some teams were in tough positions. The rules were set up to ensure Vegas would get solid to good players as well as be able to hold teams for ransom and get good draft picks. Look at the Penguins, they had to just hand over a goalie like Fleury. The Flyers were lucky only to have to give up a guy like PEB but they won't be as lucky for the next expansion draft

Also, Nasvhille had to lose James Neal, Anaheim had to trade them Theodore to protect other players, and Minnesota lost Alex Tuch. Not exactly superstars, but all very good players, not to mention guys like Marchesault and Eakin being available as well.

Florida and Minnesota did not have to do what they did. No doubt teams were placed in tough positions by having to protect players Vegas never would have chosen....which means in many cases Vegas wasnt getting the teams “leftovers” or “scraps”.

some teams may have made the wrong choices but the fact is the format was set up so they would not go thru the typical expansion growing pains. I give them all the credit in the world for being well coached and hard working.

if we are looking at the same rules for Seattle the Flyers would not have to protect first and second year pros also assuming this expansion happens after next season it would be something like this I believe? Obviously much can change with free agency and trades.

Forwards - Couturier, Giroux, Konecny, Laughton, Leier, Simmonds (if he is extended )Voracek, Weise, Aube-Kubel, Martel

Defense: Gostisbehere, Gudas, Hagg, MacDonald, Provorov, Sanheim, Morin

Goalie: Lyon, Stolarz

the list of dmen tells me they are losing a solid young dman. Would you give Seattle a first round pick to select AMac and would they do it? I would think if this is the basic list of players they go with protecting 8 skaters so they can protect 4 dmen. that still leaves a kid like Hagg most likely unprotected.

I thought, like many did going into the season, that they would at least be a speedy competitive team. Personally, I thought that 90-95 points would be the absolute ceiling for them and that if Fleury perhaps had a monster season, they could sneak in as the 8th seed in the West.

This BiggE quote aligns with my thoughts going into the season. The draft process was designed to set them up as a mid-pack/bubble team from the start. It worked. Then the coaching staff took over and has been able to squeeze every ounce of performance out of these guys and it's been a great season for them.

I thought defensively they would be good but would struggle to score. Who saw Karlsson doing what he did this year?

You forgot Myers, too.

EDIT - I would look to trade Hagg and maybe a 1st to keep Myers, Sanheim, Provy, Ghost on the team.

Shooting at 23%? I don't think anyone could have predicted that.

I'd trade Hagg and a first if they agreed to select AMac with their pick.

1 year. That's why I think Seattle would do it. If it was multiple years, they might not do it.
