On TSN radio this morning, Bob McKenzie was saying that he thinks Justin Faulk is the Leafs target

Faulk makes a lot of sense really and he’s likely available. If the Leafs do nothing it’s a regression. Rielly either gets Hainsey again a year older/slower or Zaitsev.

Faulk isn’t the best case scenario but he’s a top 4 with a good skill set. It will still be the most capable partner Rielly has ever played with. That cap hit could let him slide down to the second pairing say if Doughty should actually become available.

I am not averse to the Leafs trading Nylander, but it would have to be part of a bigger package, including a salary dump, to get a much better Dman than Faulk.

How is Faulk all that much better than Gardiner?
