Yes they are. They're proving it right now. And Fleury is a legit goalie, has been for a long time. He's not the only reason Vegas is succeeding.
- Unholy_Goalie

Why do you think their future is brighter? do they have better young players?
That would be a big no.

Only if it suits the argument.

Well i can recall, recently, Edmonton and Ottawa riding hot goalies to the finals.
Where did they end up the next year.

He's having the best year of his career as are 5 or 6 other players, is that sustainable?
- bobbyisno1

A lot of Leafs players have had career years the past two years. Is that sustainable?

I like Vegas, but 1 year doesn't make them better then 27 other teams....it could but it's not a guarantee.

Because that's what rookies do, seeing as it was their first career year.
And all signs point to yes.

They're in the Western Conference Finals and only 5 players over 30.

They have a team that plays like a team. Do they have an individual like Matthews or a Marner? No, but their supporting cast works a lot better.

Seeing as they either duplicated or did better than their first year the odds are better.
Vegas is a much older team.

They still don't have any where near the class of young players that the Leafs do.
Under 30 pfft.
JVR is under 30 and it looks like they're just gonna let him walk.

I'm gonna say cause guys that age can't keep on repeating career years, if you'r 20 or 21 sure.
A lot of things went right for that team this year, and more power to them.
They grabbed the bull by the horns proving to the hockey society that they weren't a bunch of throw aways.

my fav is what you see from other fans

-marner, nylander, matthews are overrated

-toronto wont be able to afford those three players because they are all going to make $10M+

i guess those two points are compatible..

- daeth

exactly...

and these "points of view" always go so nicely with "Laine is better" but he'll sign for a team CAP friendly number of 6M...

"Troll wanna-bee GM Spew"...

And a bunch of rookies and sophomores are more likely to give you consistent, linear results every year? They could all take a step backwards at any time.

But a less functional supporting cast of players. Enter Tavares, a legit #1 player with a legit supporting cast behind him (that proved they can go far without him) and you have a potential contender. Add to the fact he'll have more money in his pocket (better tax rate) and less pressure and that makes Vegas a better candidate.

I don't know where you get this better tax rate, he gets taxed by the canadian government cause he has a residence here.
You should look this stuff up before you comment on it.

We already went over this. He's not a resident if he spends 6+ months of the year out of the country which he does. He's not paying Canadian taxes. He's paying American taxes. Nevada does not have a state tax. Neither does Texas. Or Florida. Players who play in those states make more money than they would in Toronto. These are proven, well known facts.

https://www.capfriendly.c...t_tax_calculator/10000000

Playing in Toronto would give him one of the lowest post-tax earnings. Vegas would be the highest, tied with Dallas, Florida, Tampa Bay and Nashville.

I have looked it up. You should inform yourself before you comment.
