If they think they can make a run at Tavares... I don't see why trading Toews is such an issue

Other than the throwback from the fanbase
Disconnect in the locker room
Major scrutiny from anyone around the sport
Etc etc...

Why wouldn't you want both?

Kane sets new records in assists (11) and points (17) for Team USA in a single World Championship tournament.

He is tied for the tournament point lead with Aho who scored a hat trick vs. Team USA (Finland won 6-2). Aho is in full beast mode and should have another breakout year for the Canes next season. It's no wonder that new Carolina GM recently said Aho is his only untouchable.

Aho has a pretty good player giving him the puck too...

Yeah right.....give me Tom Wilson and Antoine Rousel and I'll buy my tickets again. Not going to get behind this organization until they show me the necessary changes to COMPETE with fight, intensity, and the desire to win again. Break it up while there's still some value to get legit returns.

I think Toews is all mixed up.

“Last summer (talking about summer of 2016) is the first time I really got the time to train really hard and I might have overdone it in the wrong way," Toews admitted. "Just worrying about power and strength all the time. I came into the season and just couldn’t move, just felt slow. I mean the game is so fast nowadays. It’s kind of a wake-up call in that sense.”

“When you see the top players nowadays they’re all on the ice,” Toews said. (now talking about his plans for training the summer of 2017) “They’re on the ice all the time just working on skill and that’s something I’m really going to focus on going forward.”

"Just getting back to playing with the puck, knowing that that’s the type of player I am, and not just being overly concerned with the defensive two-way hockey but knowing that I can go out there and contribute with the best of them, too, if I put my mind to it a little bit more.”

"I have to get back to playing more puck possession, more speed on the rush, so that right there is one little thing," Toews said. "But I think the skill part is another thing we'll have to focus on, and try and get back to playing the way I know I can."

(Now talking about summer 2018)
“That energy, that excitement, that youthful enthusiasm, I think is something that will come back,” he said. “It’s not that you take your success for granted. But when you kind of hit a few speed bumps the way we did this year, it’s humbling to a certain degree and you feel like you’re kind of starting over.”
“I feel that way about my game. I’m really excited about the potential for what a great summer of training and coming in excited to start anew can do.”

“I think the message is received,” he said. “We all take it upon ourselves not only to be better individuals, better players and improve our games, but also to bring that leadership aspect that we constantly need to work on.”

Toews noted that when the Blackhawks were atop the NHL, “everything just seemed to fall into place and it happened organically and naturally to a certain degree.”

But now?

“It just seems there are a lot of issues that are coming up that you need to find solutions for. Part of that is just keeping it simple and getting back to what made you a great player to begin with and what helped you win games as a team. But also taking a creative approach to finding solutions to those problems and learning how you can improve and make not only your own game but your team better.”

Wow JT.....it's called WORK ETHIC.
"Everything just fell into place". Sure did dude 8 years ago.

He basically is saying that they allowed their superior talent do the winning for them. Now that the 4 or 5 Hall of Famers are aging and experiencing diminishing skills, it's too hard to have to work for it.

We STH's saw the No Compete HoHum Hockey for the past 3 years at UC.
Understood.

Teravainen is 2nd in tournament scoring with 14 points (5G, 9A). Stats can be bloated in any tournament given the sample size of games and QOC. Aho and Teravainen got 7-8 points apiece in 2 games versus Korea and I believe Latvia.

McAvoy joined Team USA after the Bruins were eliminated and has 8 points (3G, 5A) in 3 games.

I'm curious to see what Shalunov's future is with the Hawks. Big winger who can score. Hopefully whatever KHL contractual issues there are get sorted out so we can see what he can provide.

I guess if you enjoy cheap shots and hacks...the Wilson and Roussel would be targets 1 and 1a. Might as well see if Matt Cooke or Raffi Torres are still interested in playing and have a total hack line

Holtby has been solid but has not been stealing games. The Caps’ D-Men as a rule have been playing very, very well. There is going to be some chances against no matter how well a team plays. I don’t view the Caps as “getting all the bounces” either. They are not winning with mirrors - they have run the Bolts out of the rink - dominated. In this play-offs I have wanted Ovie to raise the Cup.

They sure have if one has been watching most of their games. Clinching game vs Pens ....Pens hit the post 3 timesfor the win then Kuznetzov scores the game winner. They would of been eliminated if Goober was left between the pipes in the Panarin series. But as always we see two different realities and that's fine becausei like my version better

I think every year the team that gets lucky more usually wins. The coach making the right goalie change at the right time. The team with the puck luck on the posts or getting the penalty call at just the right time.

Tom Wilson would score 30 goals playing with/opening up space for Kane-Schmaltz

No he wouldnt....he's a hack remember ?
Amazing how little some people dont understand the entirety of the game. It would be nice to sit and watch our team at the UC and not think how pretty their ballerina acts are tonight. To see somebody bodied out from the crease. To see somebody go to the next and STOP.....to create a screen or a possible deflection.

Yes absolutely would a Tom Wilson type "hack" be welcome here and open up space for Kane, Schmaltz, and ADC.

Follows player to board allowing lane straight to Holtby and Ovi spectates. Wilson stops 3rd try to score by eliminating forward

Man, I bet a lot of teams are kicking themselves for passing on Brayden Point. 22 years old, 66 point season and has been a workhorse for Tampa. He topped their team in PK minutes and played a big role. Not bad for a 3rd round pick in 2014.

Not sure how things would work out cap wise and this is only the forwards, but based on plugging in who you proposed as players coming back in these trades:

DeBrincat - Tavares - Kane
Saad - Schmaltz - Zadina
Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Hayden
Dzingel - Lowry - Ferland

Ferland is listed as a LW so not sure how he translates as a RW.

This projection means not signing Wagner or Wingels and also leaves off Hinostroza and Martinsen unless one of these four guys is the 13th forward.

Also, Tavares is going to command more than $9mm. I'm thinking more than what Toews and Kane each make.

- AEL_Fox

I saw dzingel at the movie theater a few days ago. I shouted his name very loudely.

Any chance to run a small guy from behind or deliver a head shot, he's your man

I may only know "little" about the game, but a cheap shot is a cheap shot

Why not bring back John Scott to "open up space" since all that's needed is a goon to do that?

Wilson has crossed the line in the past but he has skill. Hawks are probably a playoff team if the NHL was played on Euro Ice LOL

I am not even sure Shalunov is playing for Russia in the tournament. He had been injury for most of the last month of the season. From what I have heard Maxim is a streakish player... Plays lights out about half of the games for his Moscow club.. Than coasts for 15 games and than always seems to have a yearly injury problem that keeps him off the ice for 2 to three weeks. Surprisingly, was tied with one other player for most points on the team in the season and tied for top honors in the KHL with most + numbers. I am not so sure if Maxime would do well here in the NHL. He reminds me of our old buddy Bickell. When he came to play he was a very tough Hombres. However, there were many games where Brian would just coast.

I like my version as your’s is simply wrong. Holtby playing is not a surprise - the surprise was that he wasn’t. After the wierdness of the first 2 games against the Jackets the Caps basically toyed with them winning 4 straight. The Caps beat the Pens because they were the better team not because of luck or magic although Ovie is so good he could be a warlock.
