according to capfriendly, the cap hit for a Hunwick buyout would be 400k, then 1.2 mil, then 700k the last 2 years. I could stomach that.
Maybe the pens can package Sheary and a pick/prospect for a decent dman? |

Or just trade him for a pick downgrade to a team tanking.
Hunwick and a 3rd for a 5th. Meh |

I'd see if TO wants him back. Maybe we have to eat a little salary. Seemed like Babcock really liked him.
There were rumors the Pens tried to trade Sheary at the deadline and nobody wanted him......fwiw. |

He averaged 22 and 18 mins respectively in his 2 years for TO. Babcock said some really nice things about him after he signed in Pittsburgh. Said he wished they could keep him....or something like that. Coaches fall in love with bad players all the time. Every time you see a terrible player getting way too much TOI, the reason is a coach inexplicably feels "comfortable" with him on the ice. We had Carter Rowney this season.... |

I mean... you can bury up to 1m of cap hit in the minors. So a buyout would save you 800k next year, save you nothing the year after, and cost you 700k more the last two years. That sounds like terrible cap management. |

Hunwicks cap hit is 2.2 not 1.2 but I would def try and trade him and retain and not buyout. So what you are saying is we could send him to the minors and make his cap hit 1.2 instead? |

That...and the silly car/airplane bashing outside the arena. That's so high school. And, basically stealing Detroits octopus tradition by throwing a catfish.....real original. |

Botterill did.... what? Win a lottery ball like pens I guess. Otherwise he bombed the Kane situation his first year. Frankly I’d rather have guerin. |

No on retaining any salary on anyone we r coming to the end of an era ...iwould give futures and sheary to take hunwick, and i wouldn't even sit with rust camp at 3m its a sheary mistake, jr has to clear guys from the last run for the next, no hard feelings |

Well JR said changes are coming, & by trade. So I imagine there's going to be a few trades moving players around, what players are there that aren't core players??
Shears
Rusty
Knuckles
Hunwick
Brassard
Hags
Maatta??
Dumo??

For sure prefer this route but I still don't know if that is enough. More likely see him being a toss in as part of a bigger deal. |

I'd keep Rust around. Last series aside he usually produces in the playoffs. Helps the speed game and you need top 9 guys who also kill penalties, especially if you want to avoid forcing yourself to play guys like Rowney and Kuhnhackl. Same reason I probably keep Hags after his monster 2nd half unless they find something really good to do with his cap space.
I know GMJR was talking about a lot of changes and he usually shoots straight, but I don't see a big need. |

I really like Rust but I could see him getting moved. He is an upside grinder but is going to look for a similar contract to Sheary which he isn't worth (neither is Sheary of course).
I think Simon or ZAR could replace him easily on an entry level contract. |

I wonder what Simon could get in a trade? Played top line, sign & trade?? Sell high. |

He looks like he could be a nice player. I don't think they would get anything major for him straight up but he might be a guy that gets included in a trade to dump off a not so great contract like Sheary or Huntwick.

What do you expect to get out of a 3m contract? You're not a fan of players that put up 30-40 points, can shift seemlessly through every line on the team, without missing a beat? |
